Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
They will hatch with or without light... the easiest place to culture them is next to your sump. The humidity from the tank keeps the temp close enough and they're right near your tank to feed.
The green stuff is phytoplankton. I've cultured phyto in large quantities and it's necessary for raising rotifers, and copepods. It can also be dosed directly into the tank to add food for some corals that don't get their food entirely from photosynthesis.
The danger of dosing phyto in your...
Just found this... this is almost exactly my method, but the 2 liter bottle allows you to have room for the net.

If you've never cultured anything before, I'd start with the brine shrimp. Culturing rotifers and pods requires a steady supply of phytoplankton, which means first starting a culture of phyto. Brine shrimp should be fed within 24 hours of hatching. After that they lose their nutritional value...
So after being out of the hobby for a few years (moved a couple times and got married), I am finally back!
I had told my wife that I wanted to set up a tank after the wedding, and as soon as we got back from our honeymoon we found a great deal here on njreefers and jumped on it.
So I'll let...
What item are you looking for? You just posted the main site link. If you're looking for live brine shrimp, I'd be happy to help get you started culturing them.
I used to put up a new batch about once a week and will probably start again once the tank is ready, it's easy, takes up almost no...
I've often wondered the same, and while it is possible, it doesn't really seem efficient. The way I'd thought of doing it was by putting a booster pump to push the pressure back up, T'ing off one of the hoses and adding a check valve so that the water couldn't backwash the system.
The problem...
No worries about starvation, tank has plenty to feed them. I actually did toss in a handful of snails and hermits and they're in need of some assistance. I also have a tendency to stock heavy, so as my parameters fall into place the way I want them, they'll have plenty to do.
Need a cleanup crew for my new 75g. Anyone know where in Bergen I can pick one up. If any of the board vendors are nearby, please let me know as well! New to the area, so I've been to Reef Encounters and nowhere else.
Thanks.
Ouch... sorry to hear. I'd continue to do large water changes and if you have a place in your tank to do so (between sump baffles maybe), I'd get a polypad and put it in. Be careful not to leave the poly in too long (1 week at max), but they will remove toxins short term.
Skim heavy, carbon...
I don't like to have to rinse every cube, so if I have time, I'll quickly thaw rinse and re-freeze the pack in RO/DI. This gives me the added bonus of letting me recreate the size I want. I'm sure this has some effect on them, but it's never caused me any issues and saves me the trouble of added...
There are a lot of factors that determine it for me... I'll usually take a quick refractometer reading of the water they're in to see how much difference there is. Zoanthids are generally a hardier coral than most, so I find little need to acclimate them at all, but a nice SPS with a difference...
Thanks! I've been working hard on it all day. I've finally got it filled and running, and am waiting for it to settle a bit so I can start the aquascaping.
Hello everyone,
I am finally getting back into the hobby after a long break. I got out due to finances, then was moving around, then got married, so I wasn't able to set up a tank. Now that all of that is settled, I just bought a 75g from evolX. I'm in the process of setting it up now, and will...
