Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I can't see your picture at work, but coarse substrates will tend trap food and detritus particles that would otherwise be removed by your skimmer and overflow. These particles when decomposing become an additional source of nitrates.
Most reefers avoid this type of substrate and use fine grain...
Low to moderate with random surges. The flow from the return pump is under 300gph. There is a korallia 3 and 4 in the tank. 4 maxijet 1200's are timed by the ACJR to cycle on varying from 1 minute out of 4 to 1 out of 12 minutes.
I like the 180 Matt, you have a chance to get to the bottom and back with the top off.
I also picked it because the depth of the 180 allowed me to stay with VHO's; my personal lighting preference. ;D
I'm running a CS125 as my skimmer and a single mag18 feeding two returns.
As far as salt goes...
I use the regular Tropic Marin. The key to moving away from dosing was getting on a schedule of weekly 10%-15% water changes.
Brand of salt is important. When I switched from Reef Crystals to TM, keeping the same water change schedule, I got a bump in growth and color. Some will chime in that...
I haven't noticed any difference between the two. I used Randy's 2 part much longer. In the long run I noticed more improvement from increasing the frequency of water changes.
Well maybe, but there are about 150 heads of frogspawn and hammers in the pic below that I grew from 6 different frags that totaled about 20 heads and I never saw a bubble on any of them.
I think something is irritating it and will go away in time. That's my humble opinion. ;)
Nice to have some company, thanks for the posts guys! ;D
My ideas about what were directed towards. "What are you going to be keeping?" But what am I doing to preserve the hobby and the living organisms involved is indeed and important and noble thought. ;)
There are many ways to keep a reef...
GSP's will clsoe for days when disturbed. If you see some peeking, leave them alone.
What are your pararmeters? Especially CA, ALK, MG and nitrates.
Change anything lately? When was your last waterchange?
Hey Jim,
I've never tried PE mysis, does it differ much from the others?
He was eating mysis in the store. He is showing more intrest in the other foods, but not really eating them.
Just about everyone is eating black worms now, and some go downright nuts over them!
Hey Jim, sorry you've been under the weather. Glad to be able to reflect upon your musings once again! ;D
I agree with you about the yellow coris, they are indeed beautiful. I really miss mine. ::)
Happens all the time.
Your cleaning activities may kill them, but I wouldn't go out of the way to do so.
You may need to clean them out if their tubes start to interfere with assembling and disassembling the filter parts.
Don't forget to check this out.
If you didn't realize it, this forum is intended for primarily for beginners, or anyone trying something new.
I guess that covers just about everyone, doesn't it? ;)
A quick update.
The CBB still only eats blackworms, but he does so with gusto! ;D He comes right up to the baster and practically sticks his snout up inside to get his meal.
The lack of QT did not cause any problems, yet. I'm pushing the envelope a little further by adding four new fish...
The DC8 is listed as suitable for IceCap Ballasts as well.
They changed them a couple of years back by using relays on outlets 4 and 8 so you could control low load items like Aqualifter pumps. There is enough trickle current on the triacs that once you start a pump like that, it will keep...
I am not familiar with the Reefkeepers, but I have an ACJr and an AC3.
An ACJr bundle from Premium Aquatics comes with the controller, temp probe and a DC8 for under $220. Add a ph probe for $40. That would allow you to control up to 8 electrical outlets for lighting, heaters etc.
Make sure...
