If you don't have a clue - at least have a plan!

Ah summer time and the livin' is easy! ;D Some vacation time has slowed me down a bit. I'll start working on where, when and how soon. Of course one thought about when is don't start up a new reef right before you leave for vacation. ;)

    The Ultimate Cool Deadly Animal.

Was I too subtle? ??? I guess I should have asked if it is for sale or display-only in fairness to Feng. But even if it is for display-only, I'll only downgrade my response to INAPPROPRIATE as we don't want to encourage other reefers to consider keeping one. Great article mnat. I didn't...

    VorTech MP40

I'm planning on getting one at the Aquatic Obsession Anniversay sale. It's going to be a real good deal. I like flow with surges and am planning on replacing my 4 maxijets running this in lagoon mode pretty close to minimum power. I have a 180.

    Long tentacle anemone

Anemones in general require mature tanks with excellent water conditions. A dead anemone can foul a tank quickly, but the idea is not to let that happen by providing the correct conditions. ;) LTA's like to move around and can sting other corals. I have mine in a tank with various soft corals...

    My new Stocking Idea

Save the mandarin until the tank is very mature, at least 6 to 8 months. The more rock the better. You really need a well established pod population. Anthias are active feeders, but I wouldn't call that a heavy stocking plan. It feels just right to me.

    I need a plan

Hey Ed, Sorry to hear about all the problems. Get some of those water alarms from Home Depot. They really give you quick warning when water hits the floor. With so large a system I think you can support the fish, RBTA and clam without rock, so get it out and start working on it. I tried...

Off to Ocean City Maryland for a few days. ;D The kids can watch the tanks, but they won't be watching the forums for me. ;) And yes PaulB, I'm bringing back some sand and water!

    kalk cal planing

I can tell you about mine Taz. I have a 14 gallon plastic barrel filled with RO/DI. I add 2 teaspoons of ESV kalkwasser per gallon. I pump into the sump using an aqualifter pump. I time it with my aquacontroller 2 minutes on and 28 minutes off. The pump is connected to an autotopoff float...

    Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my now 375 (was 120) by Bax And I was just about to dive into my tank for some heavy maintenance before our trip to the beach. ::) I'm with Jim,Bax. I might add some garlic to the food as well. Bolster their defences as best as you can and let them fight it off. Some blackworms...

Algae growth ? Is this BAD?

;D What Jeff said! Any amount of any type of algae this early in the cycle is not an emergency. It just teaches you the natural order of things in an artificial reef ecosystem, And patience! ;)

Useless and marginal products I have purchased over the years

Your welcome! Most sandsifting creatures won't sift coarse substates. A cucumber actually ingests the sand and passes it through it's digestive system. Not a fun process with crushed bits of coral and shells with sharp raggedy edges! If you want to stick with it, I would reduce the dpth to no...
