Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Jenn, sorry to hear you are having issues with this female. I'm not sure it is an egg bound situation as that very rarely happens. Does she float or sink when she unhitches? If she floats then she is suffering from internal gas bubble disease, if she sinks then she is suffering from fluid...
I use them. That is the way they are supposed to be, rubbery and they don't break up. What I do is thaw them first and then chop them up with a stick blender.
We have always dove and seined on the incoming tide. Even at high tide there is enough beach to pull the net up onto.
Plus at the basin, there is a rope that marks off the edge of the beach area, if you cross the rope you should have a dive flag with you. High tide will give you more water to...
As for checking the tides, I use http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/newjerseysites.html#date.
To get the tides for the Basin at L street (McCleary park) select the Shark River fixed RR bridge.
And we need to do this again. Along with a few other dives. I've already got 2 dives in at McMuddy Park this year. Did 3 dives in Fl 2 weeks ago where I did manage to get a few tropicals. And I am diving aboard the Dina Dee II this Sunday on the Dobilas wreck.
I think we should do a club dive...
A canister filter that is cleaned and maintained regularly is no more of a nitrate factory than a filter sock in your sump.
You can run a canister filter you just have to be sure to clean it on a regular basis. Every 2 weeks at the absolute most.
The sun coral needs to be hand fed some meaty foods such as frozen mysid shrimp. You'll have to feed each individual head a few times a week.
The kenya and polyps will filter feed from the water and photosynthesize from the light.
The elegance will do better with being target fed too. Either...
It is possible. There is a species of snail that lives in a tube that sends out a web like substance to catch food with. I can't think of the name right now. There is also a small tube worm that does the same thing, they stay small and it can be hard to see their tubes.
thylacine, can I borrow...
It's hard to tell if it is a toadstool (sacrophyton sp) or a lobophyton sp. Both have the same polyp structure but the body is different. Unfortunately it is next to impossible to tell on such a small specimen. Can you get a picture of it closed up by chance?
Ok that'll work. Your original post sounded like you were gonna cover the macros, sorry.
400w may be a bit strong for most macros though. If you could position the light so it wasn't directly over the macros it would probable be better.
