Is it worth upgrading? Differences in costs associated with 50g vs 90/120g?

Thanks guys for all of the feedback. I actually have a friend that is willing to sell me his 90/120g RR tank with a 30g sump that he does not want anymore for really cheap. So, the tank is not really the expensive part and that is my real motivation for even asking for suggestions on how I, or...

Is it worth upgrading? Differences in costs associated with 50g vs 90/120g?

I was wondering if anyone ever crunched the numbers on costs associated with certain tank sizes? I was planning on upgrading (?) my non-RR 47g tall to a 46g bow that I will be putting a coast-to-coast, internal, overflow on. But, as I am researching it just seems like a lot of work for a minimal...

UV light or no UV light

A few guys on RC have always mentioned that ICH is not phased by UV, but who knows. I'm actually considering putting a small 4w UV on my 47g to break down my cyano. I've pretty much taken care of my green algae issue with the nitrate waterfall, but the cyano just keeps coming back.

    Which Model Hydor Koralia...

In my 47g tall tank... I had 3 x 160gph powerheads (wave maker) and 1 x 240gph powerhead in my tank originally. I removed all four and then dropped in 2 x koralia #2's and I personally feel cheated on the flow, but I have a crushed coral bottom so no sand storms. The koralia probably moves more...

identifying a worm in my tank

THAT worm I actually got off before I put the LR in my tank. It was fully exposed and luckily Dr Jim didn't hurt himself when he grabbed it out of his QT. I would have felt really bad! :) As you mentioned, it looked so much like a sandworm that I used to fish with, but it didn't seem to have...

identifying a worm in my tank

Does it look like these two pics? If so, it's a fireworm, Hermodice carunculata, and supposely eats corals. However, I QT'ed three of them into my Mantis tank and so far they have been peaceful to everything. I only have softies so I suspect that sofies are not on their menu.

    DTS

This is a thread hi-jack sorry! If the DT Phytoplankton smells a little like eggs i'm guessing it has gone bad? When I was in the hospital, with my son, I let it go for about 2 weeks. The top 1/3 or 1/4 of the 1/2 empty bottle was white and the bottom green. I shook it up really well, but now...

    Invert quarantine?

I plan on floating and dripping (pretty much). Some of my hermits will go in the QT tank (anti-malaria meds right now...), but only because I don't want that many crabs in my DT since they are future meals for the mantis :-) I dripped when I started, but that got annoying quickly due to water...

    Overflow not working right

I had a similar problem when I was first starting this hobby out. I don't think this applies since you have been up and running for awhile.. but i'll throw it out there anyway. My overflow box (HOB) has an adjustable skimmer box and my water level in my wet/dry could be adjusted by tweaking how...

    NNJ tank drillers!

Awesome. Actually, the question was why would people temper the glass after drilling the holes and the video below answers the question - strength. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gDqiFRDPB4&NR=1 :)

    Will you drill my tank?

The glass place on Main Street in Matawan, NJ charges $20 per hole as well.

wanna see how you scratch a $20K fish tank

The company who made it could have spent $10 and put a layer of foam or rubber around it as a bumper. I feel bad for the kid, but com'on what if the accidentally bumped it hard while transporting it - from the truck to the house. Great show though... :-)

    NNJ tank drillers!

I don't think most tanks (from some research) are tempered on the sides. It seems like the consensus is that most, if not all, AGA tanks are only bottom tempered only. If anything, I would guess they only temper the bottom for cost reasons. It does seem like a few people drill the holes and...

    NNJ tank drillers!

I've been researching drilling the 46gal bow I just picked up from Bill. I plan on doing a coast to coast overflow setup. I was considering buying the bits off a guy on ebay, but only because he offers bits that have a pivot bit. Since this is my first hole I figured it might be safer? Is it...

    Glass-Holes Overflow Experience

Have you looked at the coast-to-coast setup? When I finally pickup the 46g bowfront, and find time, I am considering drilling it and setup an overflow. So far, I am pretty sold on the coast-to-coast setup - http://beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx. This...

    bad Salifert calcium test kit?

Cranbureffer: I picked up a Salifert calc test kit at the frag swap and I haven't gotten a good reading on it since. After the 4th reading over 500+ I gave up... Maybe we are just doing it wrong? Maybe we need to read the German instructions... : -) btw, I don't do anything for calc or add...

    diy overflow chamber

Hey Guys... this may sound absolutely ridiculous, but I am trying to do an overflow of some sorts to a 10g or 15g tank to another 10g tank sump. What would you guys suggest? My "broken/leaking" 10g tank would be the sump and I plan on buying another 10gal or 15gal in a few days to replace the...

painting back of tank VS. plastic background

btw, are you guys painting the tank before filling it or post-use? If you are doing it post-use how do you minimize contamination (air to water) or is there no worries if using low VOC paint?

painting back of tank VS. plastic background

I've considered using 1/4" foam board that is already blue - home depot. It comes in 4x8 sheets and I suspect that it might help keep the tank warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.. although I suspect not much.
