i would be nervouse to use a substrate that was not specifically intended for aquarium use.... what if the use recycled or by product concrete pieces as filler..... with what we invest in our systems, i wouldn't want to skimp on one of the least expensive things we put in there.....

what about cutting a piece of egg crate that fits around the pipe and sits on the bottow with a couple pieces of fishing line tied to it, then when a fish goes in, you just slide up the egg crate and it picks the fish up with it??? could work, then you never see it and it's there when you need it...

SOMETIMES, THE RUBBER BAND WILL JUST CUT THE SHROOM IN HALF IF IT'S TOO TIGHT.... SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT BE BETTER OFF PUTTING IT IN A TUPPER WARE WITH LOTS OF HOLES CUT INTO IT FOR FLOW AND SOME RUBBLE ROCK PIECES, USUALLY WITHIN THE WEEK IT WILL ATTACH ;)

I ALSO HAVE HAD THE MYSTERY SHRINKING ZOO SYNDROME, IT SUCKS, AND IT NEVER SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO THE CHEAP COMMON ONES, AND WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED (TWICE) I WOULD TRY MOVING THEM TO DIFFERENT LIGHT, DIFFERENT FLOWS.... ONCE IT STARTS I THINK THEY'RE JUST GONNERS... ???
