    Metal Halide vs. T5 lighting

I went halide for shimmer and for the cost effictiveness. I have a relatively small tank (29g) and my 175w setup cost me under $100. Of course, I built the hood myself...

    Midas Blenny with Ich

Just assume every fish that you buy has ich and proceed accordingly. Then you're sure not to have a problem.

    Midas Blenny with Ich

I know hindsight is 20/20, but you should NEVER introduce a fish directly into your display tank. QT ALWAYS...doesn't matter who you buy it from or where you get it... Now I assume your tank is a reef tank, in which case the only way to get rid of ich is to let the tank sit fallow (without...

Going back to college for Marine Biology Degree.

Hey Mike, In a recent bout of 'what do i want to do when i grow up?' I thought of the marine bio thing too. It's a very interesting science, but from what I understand, jobs are scarce and for the most part, pay even scarcer. Anyway, just my 2 bits. If you do it, more power to ya!

    Water movements

Honestly, I don't buy the Hydor markeneering. I mean, I know they move water, but I'd be willing to bet it's not nearly as much as they say. I won that Hydor #1 at a club raffle a while back. It said 400 GPH. It probably moved about 1/2 as much water as my MJ1200s. Good pumps, but don't buy...

    Hidden Reef oh no!!

I wonder how many bags it takes to get one home?

    Hidden Reef oh no!!

You gotta admit, they're pretty frickin' cool looking. A pred tank with some live rock and one of those monsters would be cool.

    Hidden Reef oh no!!

Well, on the flip side, it gets even a few of them out of the ocean, they don't need to eat for like 6 months at a time, and they could be potential food for some harlequins. :)

Why does my BTA keep moving?

To cover the intake of powerheads so these slimy lil fellas don't get sucked in and spit out in little bitty pieces.

    Yellow Coris Wrasse

Gotcha. So its not that they're problematic, it's just that you don't like them. I was a little confused as I'd always thought they were harmless filterfeeders that actually do more help than harm, and whose population would ebb with the available foodstuffs. I just looked at your mac...

Why does my BTA keep moving?

Of course, the funny thing is, when you actually want them to move, they don't. I had to litterally take a rock down into the garage and beat it with a hammer till the dang thing flopped out onto the floor to get one to let go. I haven't heard for a while, but I think that one's still kickin'! ;)

Why does my BTA keep moving?

Yep! Short answer: Because it wants to.

Any experiences with a flameback angel in a reef???

My flameback didn't touch a thing in my tank when I had him...albeit was only for a month before I learned the hard way that he was a jumper. :(

    gsp question.

I've actually notice the hair algae thing too. Everytime I do a water change I just yank that crap out...but it always comes back, but only on the GSP mat.
