If you don't have ich in your tank, and you quarantine your fish before he goes in, so he doesn't bring ich, I think it's fairly safe to say you won't have ich problems in your tank.
If you don't let it get in, it shouldn't be there. I know some believe that it's 'always present', but that...
Hey J.,
Are you testing your phosphate in the tank or the water you're putting into the tank (before it goes in)?
Phosphates almost always read 0 because the algae will just thrive off of them to their fullest extent.
Are your RO/DI filters relatively new? Checked TDS?
How about your bulbs...
If it's a crawlspace, you can just reinforce it really easily.
Go to home depot or the like and buy a 4x4 or two, cut one section to span 2 or 3 floor joists, one to sit on the ground and one a little bit (like 1/8 or 1/16th) long er than the space between those two and you're set. You can even...
Hey Bob,
As a former hair algae farmer and a current sea hare owner, I'd recommend taking other steps to stop your HA problem.
Do you use RO/DI? Checked current TDS to make sure filters are working well?
Do you overfeed?
Do you have a fuge with macro?
Have you tried manual removal (I.e...
The best advice I was given was if the urges come really bad, to tell yourself to wait 5 minutes and see if you still want one. Most times, you'll think better of it by then. Spend a little time thinking about your health, your family, and those commercials where the guy smokes through a hole in...
Re: Without starting a WAR
This looks VERY interesting to me. I like their 12 bag special, since I do 5g water changes every week.
Anyone else hear anything about these guys? They don't seem to be too far away, either...
I don't know about the bigger model, but I'm currently using the 3/4 variety and, while I really like it, I think it seriously impedes the system's flow. I have a 880 GPH pump on my closed loop setup for a 29g and I would REALLY like more flow. Tank definitely isn't living up to its 30x turnover...
Good work! I quit a few years back, too, but have dabbled occasionally.
Knowing that my wife will kick me in the nuts if she ever catches me smoking really helps keep the 'demon at bay'. :)
That tank was right up there with the coolest thing I saw at the swap. Mr. Corals table tank was sweet too, but I've never seen so many of those lil bubbletips in one place!
Mine occasionally disappear into their mat for 2 or 3 days, but I've had great luck. I think my 'grass' is 2x the size it was when I got it a few months back:
As far as my conditions, I don't really skim or dose, and I change 1/6 of the water every week.
I've heard some of these lil stars have a taste for zoos. Mine don't seem to bother them, but I know some people grab them off the glass and flush them on site due to their occasional eating habits.
Some people have all the luck. I threw a baby thompsoni tang in with a coral beauty one time and every fish in my tank ended up dying.
Ha. A school of yellows would sure be purdy!
