Check for photos of a eunicid worm (see the largest worm contest). Easiest to peg if you can see the head. That's got some pretty tell tale signature features (band, blah blah) smooth thing.

MASNA has an Ask the Experts forum and Christine Williams answers questions in there. She might be able to tell you what the disorder is that is causing the distension and hopefully give you some idea of what you could do to help it. Could you get it into QT for treatment?
They like sponge, have you tried a frozen food for angels (Ocean Nutrition makes an Angel blend frozen cubes, if I'm not mistaken).

I like a little sand. I know that TwinReefs had a slightly coarser sand in his tank than I have and his sand stayed put even through the mega flow that he had. If he could do it, any of us could! If you search for his name there's a thread where he talks about the sand. Even with the finer sand...
So I guess it doesn't eat that sponge, but dines solely on Eudendrium ramosum. Where do you find THAT to feed it? Sad to think that it is destined to perish.
So what about the nay saying on the sulfer denitrator? If you use a second chamber with carbon or have your output go into your Ca reactor what's the downside?
We covered everything we could find in formica about 6 years ago. Just make sure there's no dust anywhere to be found. That's an irrecoverable error. Do you have (or have access to) a good router? That makes the whole thing so much easier. Have fun with it!
