Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I actually had a torch spawn (no idea where it came from) that is starting to devastate the edge of my lavendar hyndophora colony! So much for hydno being so tough!
Thanks for joining us, Jim. I think that your workshop went a long way to help in our efforts toward increased conservation. Now to put those ideas to practice!
For those of us who have a regular 5/6 stage RO/DI what do we need to do to reduce our waste down?
There is, of course, no telling! It is very likely though that now that they have the inspiration to host that they will gravitate towards their natural host. But only time will tell. Good luck. I guess if they decide they prefer the zoas you can remove the bubble tip and save yourself the...
To say that there is NO waste with Kati Ani would be incorrect. There is waste, just not during the water PRODUCTION phase. The waste with Kati-Ani is with the regeneration process. And that waste water isn't water you can use on the garden. There may be significantly less waste, but that would...
You do need to finally have SOME waste. Something needs to carry the bad things that you're taking out of the water away. This isn't just like a poly filter that catches the garbage and can send the rest along. I'll reach out to Jim to see if he'll join us here in this thread!
Based on your comment above I thought I'd mention that topoff water needs to be pure RO or you're going to see your salinity rise (quickly in a small tank). Make sure your CHANGE water is salted (to 1.022-1.026) and that your TOP OFF water is just RO.
I thin wpg is highly overrated these days as T5 and LED technology rivals MH with less power consumption. MH is good as are T5s. PCs alone not good enough. What lighting do you have? What size system?
We had that same exact experience when we paired a long time sexually mature female with a neutral/male young maroon. Conversely we had an older male/possibly mid-change female and she would not tolerate that same young maroon.
A BTA will prefer to be high in the rockwork. I'd try for a carpet if you'd like something to position in the sand bed. Of course you can't necessarily pick their spot either!
Well I guess when you put it that way... :(
LOL. Very cool, Ed! Give it a whirl, man! I love Boston any time of year. The architecture alone is worth the price of admission. It is such a beautiful city.
We should be able to order them through a print on demand service where we don't pay up front for the calendars. I'm sure we could put together a calendar of best of's for 2010 from images we already have as POTM winners, and then work towards next year's calendar.
No anemonies for at least 6 months. I know it sounds cliche', but REALLY. You need to know what you're doing before you jump into anemones. They can be tough to keep and if you're smart you'll opt not to get one at all. It will just save you a lot of pain in the long run. Anemones are a PAIN...
I think that depends on what kind of corals you're planning on introducing and how regimented you are with your testing and maintenance. If you're planning on easy zoas, mushrooms, leathers, and forgiving corals then you can go shortly after your cycle is done. Acros you need to wait longer for...
LOL. I had no idea you were among our tankless. That makes this all the funnier. It also reinforces that these are friends you make for life, hobby or not!
