Congrats Juan. If you do intend to try to raise them, I can point you towards a great research thread here on our forums. One of our members - Hawkeye - was doing it (successfully) for a while and kept a log. Unfortunately, hurricane sandy was not good to him and I believe he stopped raising...

Make sure you don't get any WD40 on the blue part or the lid! You don't want that affecting your readings. I know that seems obvious to most, but figured it couldn't hurt to specify that. ;)

That's what I meant. I know I had to do that when we went out on Jim's boat. But, reading that link, it says that if you solely fish on a for-hire fishing boat (charter/party) then you don't need to register. The boat/captain must be registered, but I'm sure they are.

Edwin, is this the only crack, or is there one on the front edge too? I can't imagine all sides being the same length if the is a crack on only one side. Only way that could happen is if someone actually cut a sliver out on purpose (maybe to run a tube or powerhead wire or something?)....which...

I don't think past fishing experience would be required, but you would likely need to have an up-to-date fishing license to go on the trip. I could be wrong though... Rob would have to confirm that. It sounds like a great idea. Fishing and hanging with a group of club members for a day...
