    Move the sump or not?

Most bottom glass is tempered.....but very easy to check. Use a phone, tablet, laptop with a white screen. Put this device in the tank. Using polarized sunglasses, look at the screen and turn it until it goes black. If it is totally black, it's not tempered. If you see blotchy white...

    Move the sump or not?

This Iwaki is a choice on RC's Head Loss Calculator. You will at least get an idea. My suggestion would be to run the widest pipe you could fit/handle. The larger the diameter of the pipe, the less friction.

    Maxi-Jet Replacement

Further digging...... It looks like I can still purchase the original Italian MJ's .....but now under the name of Cobalt.....and a bit more expensive. But I'm worth it....and so are these originals! Curse the new Chinese MJ's. A mini soapbox.....all for the sake of margins. Just...

    Maxi-Jet Replacement

Thanks for the response.......I did a little digging. The original die-hard MJ's were made in Italy. These pumps are legends.....used in many different applications.....and had an excellent track record. The new versions are made in China and do not have a good track record. Oh crap...

    Maxi-Jet Replacement

I'm not liking that they change Maxi-Jets!!!! I needed to order up two replacement Maxi-Jet 1200's and saw that they have changed these pumps. I don't like what I'm reading as far as the reviews. This is deja vu Koralia all over again. Am I being paranoid about ordering these new...

Wow! That looks like a triple beam with a steel plate supported by lally columns.....that will hold a Sherman tank. Looking good....keep the pictures coming!

    Water changes

If you get a dual head peristaltic pump, you can remove the old water and replace with new water in one step...and one motor.

Looking good Jose. How's your little princess doing now having two brothers?

I never understood how the copper floats pitted and "rusted" through. I would NOT suggest soldering the current float...for three reasons; 1. It's currently filled with gasoline, and a hot iron and gas just don't get along. 2. The weight of the solder could impact the float floating...

    Ale of the season

This talk about Ballantine sparked my interest, so I looked into it. Ballantine was sold to Falstaff, who later sold it to Pabst. Pabst made it for some time, but then stopped. In 2012 they decided to relaunch, but had to formulate the recipe. (It was as if they lost the original...

    Ale of the season

Hey, are you saying I'm an old timer? My word! It had (or maybe still has) a mild skunky taste. That doesn't sound nice, but it was.....for old timers anyway. Dance

Paul, you have me beat. My Toro 421 is only 35 years old. However, about two years ago the original Tecumseh went boom. Literally, it went boom. I was able to pick up a Harbor Freight six horsepower that was a direct bolt-on. Good thing my wife was working, because I pulled the snowblower...

What a bust! Yesterday they predicted 12 to 24 inches in our area. Hard to tell with the wind, but we maybe have 4, or at best 5 inches. Still snowing, but they are saying the brunt of the snow is over.

Once you've changed out the gas, the last resort would be to spray starting fluid (ether) into the carb and getting the engine to start.

    Ale of the season

I no longer imbibe the suds like I use to, and was never into the niche stuff, but my go-to ale back in the day was Ballantine. I know it's a mass produced ale, but for me it was one of the best. I don't even know if they still make it, but it was good stuff.....and the puzzles in the caps...
