    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Jim, first off, sorry about the Emperor. As far as washing your food....it's a myth. Check out a Randy article HERE...about 2/3's of the way down titled, "Rinsing Foods and the Effect on Phosphate." Xenia is a weed....if you need more, let me know.

    Beware of Relationships

Today, in the kitchen or living room, and certainly in the fish room, I could hear my heater controller (ReefKeeper II) playing ping pong. Looking at the temperature on the display, it would go from 77.8 to 78.5 to something lower, to something higher, repeatedly. It sounded like a ping...

    Is This a Game Changer?

Well, I watched the whole thing. They claimed 40% more flow than the "old" MP40. With that difference, I think they would have been better served by branding with a different name....say MP50. And HERE is the actual YouTube so you don't have to go into that guys facebook, or whatever it was.

    Is This a Game Changer?

Well here's the first video of the new Vortech that I pinched from R2R https://www.facebook.com/crackischeaper I'm not impressed because I see this as a necessary product improvement, hopefully identifing the correct bearings for the dry side. Should have happened years ago. However, I...

    Today started out normal

Always enjoyable reading your stories. This "two-fer" must only happen to people called Paul.....but I have you by about ten years. My microwave went and the 4" cast stack. The microwave required a magnetron, and when I priced them, it was a wash compared to buying a new microwave. The...

    Best Rock adhesive?

What? If you tell me how much weight I need to lose on my diet, I'll tell you how much cement you need to buy.

    Best Rock adhesive?

How am I suppose to answer that? I don't know how much rock you want to cement up. I do know this stuff sets up pretty fast, so do this in small batches.....what you can use within a couple minutes. I'd also let it cure without being in water for a week or more.

    Can't go wrong with that.

    Best Rock adhesive?

I just checked Allied Building Products and they do carry Emaco (MasterEmaco), but I don't see the right number. Also, as I gave this more thought, I forgot that you also need to mix in a little Acryl 60 (MasterEmaco A660) to increase the adhesion properties. You can find that at NJ Supply...

    Best Rock adhesive?

You can also use Thorite cement. I know Marco Rock sells it in smaller quanities...and I've got to believe one pail would be enough for your tank. EDIT TO ADD: If you wish to look for it locally, you're looking for Emaco R400 or MasterEmaco N427.

    Maxi-Jet Replacement

Jim, thanks for the heads up. If I was ready for my big BRS order, and hooked up in a group buy, I would have ordered from BRS. However, I did place my order for 29.99 with free shipping through Amazon, but coming from Seacorals. So I can't complain about that. Thanks again.

Your tank parameters for a college project

I would also suggest that you post on other sites....such as Reef2reef. Not sure if you'd get the statistical number from the folks here. Best of luck.

Your tank parameters for a college project

I feel compelled to respond since I have advanced degrees of both biology and chemistry. I will preface this by saying that I'd still be interested in seeing your results. If this is simply a course in statistics, I think it's a great thing to do. However, when you ask individuals for...

    Neon dottyback

I'm certainly no expert, and it depends on the size of the eel, but I would surmise that the Pseudochromis would eventually become a nice little meal for the eel.

    Inherited 90

Skimmate Change - Biopellet Effect??? Pre biopellets my skimmate is what I would call normal. The bubbles would form and climb over the top edge of the collection cup and then collapse into a liquid. I had to dig to find a photo, but here's an old one prior to installing a collection...
