My clam looked a lot like that for a while. Something in the tank was bothering him. I moved him to our frag system for a while and when he was happy again we moved him back into the tank. He's happy as a clam now. I suppose it is possible that yours has pinched mantle, but it is also possible...
I guess there's only so far up they're willing to go out of water. The teeth typically extend 1/4" or so above the water line. A stupid fish will get sucked over the wall with ease without teeth. Saw it happen to my lion fish-- and that's a FAT fish! A skittih fish will be making their home in...
They won't climb over if there are teeth, IME (there are no snails in my RR overflow boxes). I wouldn't trust screen over the hole to protect my fish, but that's just me. I'd install a plexi grate, if nothing else. Hopefully you won't have any problems with it.
It is a High Intensity Diode. So it isn't MH nor, technically LEDs. I saw Eric Borneman with an HID flashlight at our swap. He shined it on back speaker room hall from the front of the room. When he used it under a par meter it gave off over 100par. All that par came from a couple of C...
You really should have "teeth" in your overflow. The reason they do that is so that the snails don't climb over the edge. It also prevents other unwanteds (like fish) from flowing over the top. With our topdown box in our bedroom we've had fish and starfish, etc go over the wall and get stuck in...
Bruce, do you have such a media? Can we put it after the RO/DI as an extra "stage" to absorb the silicates? Can it be used on the tank itself or just fresh water (I'm afraid I know the answer to this, but it doesn't hurt to ask).
Why not just plug it in, connect it with hoses into a sink and give it a whirl? You could start with hot water and see how fast it cooled it. Do you know which model it is? The cracked cover wouldn't dissuade me from using it if it still functioned. You could probably contact the manuf (or use...
Our tank definitely shows signs of elevated silicate levels. While their methodologies may be suspect on Silica (we did remember someone saying that earlier) it actually confirms what we were thinking much better than the (old) Salifert kit we have on hand (which reported .5). We'll be adding a...
Most people just put starboard down. The advantage to that it is will reflect light (until it is covered in coraline). The more light reflecting around the better (which is why "they" suggest not painting the back of the tank, even on the outside).
It is very likely that the plate and the clove will fight. My plate walks around the sand looking for other corals to annoy. Hard to say which would win (until it is too late).
If you can't take the rock out of the tank then you could try gently working the cloves off of the rock. They seem to...
