    Scolymia Grown Wild!

Feeding should also help the bleaching in addition to the lower lighting. Glad that it answered your question too! My GSMs don't touch it. Hopefully yours won't either. Mine only really care about something if I put it in their "zone" though. Then they'll pick it up and throw it across the tank...

live rock roots ? mystery live rock hitchhiker?

Bristle worms wouldn't look like they were growing on the rock. They look like catepillers. That rules those out for me. Spaghetti worms look like roots growing on your rock. They're a good thing. They'd be a golden brown color. Reddish brown or greenish brown is most likely algae. That needs...

    Scolymia Grown Wild!

We've had a scoly for about a year now. For a while it was in my display and it looked good for some time and slowly got smaller. Not deathly small, just not expanding as much and starting to show a little skeletin at night. We moved it to our basement system thinking that maybe it was someone...

Ultraviolet Sterilizer on Home Reef Aquarium Poll.

We ran one on our pond way back before SW. It prevented/killed "string algae" (otherwise known as hair algae, IMO), and kept the water CRYSTAL clear. Now granted the pond water got up WAY higher in temp than our SW systems, but I can't help but wonder how it could be God's gift to ponds and...

    phosphate reactor?

I have the TLF running on my 575g system and it keeps the PO4 in check (0 to .03). I don't need to change it any more often than once a month or so, so I'm not sure why they have such a low g rating on them for. I run mine about 1/2 full of media, maybe a little less.

    Low pH is killing me

CO2 is heavier than air. If you have a big head space over your sump water to the edge of the sump the CO2 will sit in there and not rise out. That's where the fans are supposed to help some. They push the heavy CO2 laden air up out of the sump. Of course if you're exchanging that with CO2 dense...

Welcome To NJRC! Take a minute to introduce yourself

Welcome to the forums, Andrew. Lots of great information in the threads. Be sure to start a "Tale of the Tank" thread when you're ready to start the serious "what am I going to buy" part of the process! Follow along in the FS forum to pick up what you can find gently used for a discount. Try to...

    Low pH is killing me

How about drilling a tiny hole into the basement (about where the big hole will go) that you can use to feed that air tube down? If your house has too much CO2 (which we're assuming here since the water is not the problem), you will see high alk and low PH, yes? Hopefully adding an air source...

Best Place(s) to order tank from online...?

Our newest sponsor is in Lakewood and the guys there seem really nice. It is a young start-up company, started by experienced builders, so I'm sure the quality is top notch. They don't have their own forum up at this time, so you can either PM them or post in our Vendor forum (vendors can't...

    Salt Frustrations

Either raise the lights or cover the tank. You must have a good surface disturbance (a good thing) which is causing the splashing. You may be able to tone that down a bit to control it.

Oh Mike. How sooo sooo sad. Sorry to hear about your loss as well. It is horrible to watch the dog left behind searching for their mate. :-(

What's your favorite LFS and why?

I thought it would be interesting for folks to post up what you like (most) about your LFS. Why you frequent the one/s you do an what keeps you going back? This is a good opportunity to give props to your favorite stores.

Good Marine Fish Stores in North Jersey?

Trop, AO & OGII are all central, not so much "south". South around here means below Rt 70, at least! Most often even further south!

What kind of cleaner magnet do you need on that and can you put a reef gadget on both sides of it? Looks great. Like the black sand. Very nice!

Sorry for your loss, Bill. She looks so peaceful in that picture of her sleeping. You and your family are in my prayers. Glad you felt us family enough to post it up, even if it is sad.
