That coral looks to be in quite a bit of dispair. How long have you had it for? While touching the LR could have caused an infection, I have my lobos IN rock and they don't do that. I see a hint of cyano in the substrate. What are your nitrate, phosphate, ammo, and pH readings? What has your...
They spread faster than zoas and xenia, kill any coral they get near, look terrible when they spread and they ruin the resale value of your rock. I'm glad to hear that they told you that you didn't want it (even if you didn't listen ;D ).
It looks bleached and unhappy. What colors was it when it was open at the store? It should be open by now, if it were in ideal conditions. I would check your magnesium and make sure it isn't being over-lit either by reducing your photo period or screening the tank until it looks better.
I'm with you this month, Bob. Unfortunately. Something has to give, unfortunately the tanks aren't the worst of it (the pool, AC, dehumidifier,... ). We've seen a 500$ jump in our AC bill from winter running costs.
Oh Terry, I'm so sorry. I also had wondered what happened when reading your signature. You and his parents/family are in my prayers. I can't imagine the weight of that sadness.
Wendy, looking forward to the progress shots of the new tank. Let me know when you're ready to borrow the stock tank. It is here for the borrowing whenever you're ready for it!
Different reflectors also create different par ratings with the same bulbs on the same ballasts. The ORP of the tank water will also have an affect on the effective par reaching the corals and could cause them to get more light. A tank in a more bluer spectrum (14-20k) will be receiving less par...
Unfortunately the song overwhelmed the words and I couldn't hear what his father had to say. I wish I had. thanks for posting the link, Jim. He seems so sweet. How sad.
Grow light is probably close to 5500K, which will be an UGLY yellow. There are no blue lights in that and the reflector doesn't look like it would help create the par you'd need to penetrate the water depth.
I'm afraid that is't quite what you're looking for unless you can get 1/4 of those...
In a mixed reef (SPS & Softies) you do the best you can with flow for the corals based on their needs and then use a turkey baster to blow the detritus off of the rocks a couple of times a week to keep it from building up. You can't always keep them all happy.
In an SPS dominated tank (mostly...
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
I'm sorry, I thought you were thinking of doing BB as an alternative. I've seen folks put egg crate down under their sand bed, I just wouldn't do that unless there was sand covering the holes.
Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
I wouldn't do that. The benefit of having a tank with a bare bottom is that the sand isn't there to trap detritus. Imagine how much detritus can be trapped in those little squares of egg crate! That could become a long term maintenance nightmare...
