Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I agree about the weekdays. Tuesday after school opens is the best. No field trips yet and the weather is great.
We have been members on and off again since the late 70's. I hear you about being nostalgic. As great as the Congo is, I sometimes miss the South America exhibit that it replaced...
Alk can also be measured in ppm. LaMotte kits measure in ppm and 300 ppm is way high. That would be 6 meq or 16.8 dkh.
Alkalinity and calcium are linked and a balance needs to be maintained, but it does not work as suggested above. If you raise alk, calcium goes down and vice versa as a rule...
Hey Phil,
The zoo was great. Spent a lot of time with the lions and giraffes watching the new babies. The Congo Gorilla exhibit and Tiger Mountain kept us entertained as well.
Unfortunately due to budget cuts more than the Skyfari is closing. The World of Darkness is closed and rumors have the...
Picked up a new magazine at Aquatic Obsessions today called ReefLife. It's the first edition. Looks pretty good.
Gotta love a magazine with an article titled "The Perfect Coral: Euphyllia" written by J. Charles Delbeek no less! ;)
Well I got back in the saddle today.
Took the canopy off, went into the tank and did some work. I also changed 50+ gallons of water while I cleaned out the sump.
Added some more rock in the sump, some new zoas to the tank and so far no disasters!
Thanks Boomer. that may explain where my peppermints are. They use to come out at feeding time, but have been missing for some weeks.
Iodine was the only thing I've been adding and now I'll drop that one. And no i wasn't testing as the test was a pain and I was aware of how it only tests for...
Sorry I didn't see this sooner.
I have had mine for 3 months now and every so often it closes up for a day or 2. It is already in a moderate light, low flow area so I leave it alone and wait. Usually in 2 days it's open and better than ever. Not sure why this happens but over time the coral...
Sounds like you are on the right path.
With individual reflectors T5's provide much more light than PC's.
I gather the fixture has individual switches, that makes it easy to phase in. Are the 3 starter tubes 2 actinics and one 10K?
Good luck!
So the great Reef Disaster Chain Reaction is drawing to a happy conclusion; mostly because I belong to a great club with great members and sponsors!
Ed was kind enough to meet me for lunch and get my 660 so he could drop it off at Ice Cap.
I was having trouble finding packing tape and a post...
Welcome Frank!
Hope your studies yield some knowledge that can be shared with the 'older pros' and others.
I bet you might find some friendly folks willing to donate test subjects as well. ;D
Spent the day at the Bronx Zoo yesterday and rejoined as a member. Surfing the Wildlife Conservation Societu website and found this article that might of interest. Even the natural reefs need to deal with algae control.
