Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Nice snag Wendy.
I saw them in person last night, while I was looking at all my soon to be new fish! ;D
They were much nicer in person. Maybe when all the NJRC photographers are hanging around the anniversary party, they can give the AO crew some lessons. ;)
You win! ;D
Looks great Erna. The right side gave me some ideas how to use flat pieces other than as shelves.
Did you just stack or did you epoxy, peg or other fasteners?
Bet the tangs are loving the extra 2 feet in length!
Nice video Joe.
I disagree with them on acclimating the corals, but I know many reefers don't acclimate.
In both cases at least one important step is left out. The fish should be acclimated to a Quarantine tank. For corals, I don't QT but I dip them for parasites. Dipping methods are varied...
And you were very lucky!
But that doesn't mean it should be done that way. Some things just don't make sense cutting corners on and acclimation is one of them. Even if the fish are OK, they were probably were stressed for sometime, the coral too.
Remember the purpose of the club and it's...
Looks like there are two relatively easy parameters to track to test their claims.
They say you should experience an increase in ORP and stable ph both day and night.
Dan, you ran ozone so I guess you might have an ORP meter? Do you have an Aquacontroller? That could be hooked to a computer...
If you stumble on any pumps while cleaning your closets, I can use 2 small mags or other submersible pumps to pump water between barrels for mixing and water changes.
Thanks!
It's a curing process that gets all nutrients out of the rock.
Basically you cycle the rock in a darkened container for an extended period of time. You swish it around frequently to dislodge all trapped particulate matter and change the water it's cooking in on a regular basis.
Sounds like a fun weekend! ;D
Thanks for the lessons learned. Confirms my plan to run the tank with fresh water for a few days to check for leaks. Then I'll drain and make the move of the other tanks.
When you've had some rest let's see some pictures.
So I got the stock tank from Stan, ballasts and harnesses from the Ice Cap open house and a Savko order is on the way.
I'll be painting the primer coat this weekend. Before the carpeting comes I'm going to plumb everything and water test the tank.
Just twiddling my fingers until the real fun...
No doubt a refractometer is better, but they are pretty hard to find after midnight. ;D
The point of my post was to help him then. I agree with all that a refractometer is the way to go in the long run.
Jason, how do things look today?
Jason,
The deepsix is a swing arm hydrometer, correct?
Try soaking it in RO for awhile. Really rinse it well. Sometimes salt builds up on them. Also make sure you aren't getting any bubbles stuck on the arm when reding.
What is the CA and ALK? If the salinity is way up, those values should be...
What are you using to check the salinity with?
Salinity is a pretty straight forward thing. Unless you ar topping off with saltwater by mistake, adding freswater will bring it down.
What was different when you noticed the spike? Did you have an excess of evaporation for some reason?
What are...
I think Kathy said she wants to add the cooked rock into the tank that has the new rock which is nearing the end of the cycle.
If that is the case those nitrates and phosphates are already in the tank. Adding the cooked rock won't add any significant nutrients and will provide more growing...
I'd wait on the coral.
If you are really anxious to watch something in the tank, that is really still too new, what kind of fish were you planning on?
You do need to make sure ammonia and nitrites are zero first.
If you want some anthellia or green star polyps, I can give you some.
