Our eel needs to be hand fed. We also have the same problem when we go away. We usually have someone come in and feed him every couple/few days while we're away.
I kept various SPS HIGH under PC lighting for a while in the beginning. They may not be thrilled about it and may lose some color, but overall should do ok for short term QT purposes.
