    Phosban Reactor

Nope. He just missed the buy on Kalk reactors. I'm not sure if we'll do the reactors separately or just ball them into the May PA buy (for June delivery).

    Since adding the Ka Reactor

    I'd be thrilled with a DKH between 8 & 9.

    My soon to be upgrade

You needed to call them? They didn't call you? Hmm. That's not very professional of them not to warn you if they knew there was going to be a severe backup like this.

What test are you using for this?

Replacing old filter with new sump/fuge

You could always put the pads in the new sump and pull them out on your regular schedule if you're worried about losing their bioload capability, but with that amount of rock, I'm sure you'll be fine.

    Since adding the Ka Reactor

Holy CROW that's a big difference. Maybe my readings aren't as high as I thought! LOL! Sera should be a good kit. I'd love to try those, but you don't see them many places.

    April 2008 meeting

29 folks planning on attending. That is just about half of the cap. Make sure you register if you are coming. With space being tight, walk ins are REALLY discouraged. You do not need to be a member (or even a forum user) to register. You just need to sign up at the RSVP link above.

Anyone know any good concrete contractors?

Ahhh. Gotcha. We've also had concrete work done by Jersey's Finest and Unique Crete, but they both did stamped work for us. Jersey's Finest was more expensive but I liked their work better (for stamped 'crete). But I'd want the bdry system down before I put the floor in. In our house they dug up...

Replacing old filter with new sump/fuge

What is in your filter now? If there's media in it that is holding bio filtration that might be true, but I doubt I'd be worried about it if my tank had 1.5-2#/g of rock in it.

Anyone know any good concrete contractors?

BDry We had a company come and install this system in our last house and it was amazing how well it worked. We went from flooding ALL THE TIME to no water in the house at all. I'm not sure if this is the same contractor we had, but I used the zip code from Howell when I did my search on their...

    March POTM *Winner*

I was wondering why a Copperbanded Butterfly would bother your shrimp! ;D That was definitely the first thing that came to mind. Though John did come up with Coral banded shrimp!

    Since adding the Ka Reactor

It will go up. In the long run, when your PH is balanced you'll need to adjust your use of the kalk reactor with fresh water/Ca reactor. Our DKH runs around 11. It would be better to run it lower, but I can't seem to do that, lol.

    Since adding the Ka Reactor

I'd turn off the kalk reactor for now. If your PH reacts properly it is going to shoot through the roof. I have no idea how long that will take to happen.

    Carbon

Your change schedule on the two will be different. Sometimes your PO4 stuff will last 2 weeks, other times a month (keeping tabs on your PO4 will help you assess this). Carbon some people change weekly, others change monthly. I run both, just in separate canisters.

    Since adding the Ka Reactor

Alk is definitely too high. With a PH that low and an alk that high (what test are you using?) you must have CO2 that's sitting in your system. Did you ever get your skimmer air intake out a window? With a DKH that high your PH should be up around 8.6-7. I would split the Kalk drip with RO drip...

Who is running Iron Oxide Hydroxide (GFO)????????

The thing that differenciates the Phosban REACTOR from a bag of rust is active v. passive. Passively running a bag of GFO in your sump is not as effective pushing water through it actively. That and the complication of the average hobbiest finding a purified bag of rust.

    Dipping Corals

Not treating new arrivals is what allowed red bugs into his system. Allowing them to slime is a great way to acclimate if you don't have to worry about what pests they're bringing along. He's now going to be doing a FWD in order to prevent future outbreaks. Thanks, Steve. Good to know. Apart...
