Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Planning for a swap the size of our Fall Frag Swap takes some time! It wouldn't be nearly as GREAT if we had them more often. Keep in mind that our meetings are a great place to meet up to make some local trades to hold you over!
We're accepting vendors now. Not sure when we'll open up registration yet. We still need to finalize speakers.
The date is October 25, 2008 in Secaucus, NJ.
Dry rock that was never in the ocean won't smell when you cure it, but Marco is dry rock that was previously in the ocean in Figi/Tonga. When you cure Marco rock it smells. If it is dry rock that doesn't have any organics on it, it wouldn't smell.
A cover (unless it is in a remote area of your detached garage)! Our rock cured in the basement. Even with a towel against the door, the WHOLE house smelled horrible (all the way up to the second floor).
That is so cute! I can't believe it survived (as most of the ones we TRY to keep die on us without warning). I'd send it to shimmek or WWM to see what they have to say about it. Who/where did you get the rock from?
The live rock will definitely help to seed coraline, etc in the new tank. I'm not sure if we'll put existing rock back into the tank when we re-scape the tank yet or not. I'm hoping to have a minimalist rock structure when we're done and not so much the overwhelming rock wall we have today.
Some sponsors don't offer any discounts, others offer specials or 10-15%. It depends on the store. The best you can do is show your card at the register and not press them (we don't want to be "that obnoxious club") if they don't offer a discount to you at the register. Some stores that aren't...

Seahorses optimally need a separate system from as they need MUCH colder temps than we run our reefs at. As far as proximity, those tanks look to be a fine distance from one another, so technically very feasible.
The Tunzes are larger than the vortechs but they CAN be angled inside the tank so if you want flow going in any way other than straight across the tank, this is your only option. The Vortechs can't be angled, but they're a tad bit smaller and the heat is external to the tank. The battery backup...
Welcome back, Bob! We're changing all of our existing rock to Marco, we loved it so much when we saw it at the swap. We still have one of your clams too and it's doing great. Let me know when you're ready for it and we'll happily send him home!
I'm sure there will be plenty of frags around when...
Re: 2008 Meeting Schedule
We come down to the wire often, but we're always able to fill the slot. It is really in the best interest of our Northern and Southern members to ensure that 1/3 of our meetings are in their region.
At this point we're only looking for a South host for August and a...
If the tanks are in close proximity, you can use one pump/sump to feed both tanks. Both tanks would then overflow back to the common sump. It is considered a reeeaallly bad idea to try to feed one tank and then use a pump from that tank to feed another.
But lots of folks use one pump in a sump...
