Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Purple is required by code when you're doing home plumbing because that's the only way the inspector knows that primer was used. For non-home plumbing the clear primer works just as well (just doesn't leave things as purple).
Renee, Thanks so much for opening your home to the crew again this year. We had a wonderful time and appreciate your hospitality. It was great to see everyone again and nice to meet so many of the new folks. Pete was the event photographer of the day, so I'm sure we'll lots and lots of pictures...
If I was going to take macro shots of things in nature (bugs, spiders, butterflies, frogs, etc) that I couldn't get close to without scaring them I'd be inclined to get the Nikkor 200mm micro. For our fishtanks a 105 with an extension tube is a good combo. That might well work for bugs and such...
Our system now is nearly 570'ish gallons and when we change water we do it 110 at a time. We take 55 from the sump (which leaves it with barely enough water to run) and 55 from the 125 "frag tank that has more rock than my display right now". We use the house waste system to drain the tank...
We also drain water from a sump rather than a tank. We did drain water from our tank when we first set it up and we would bring the water level down to below some of our corals, but I wouldn't personally want to do that with SPS corals.
Just to bring that around full circle, MRC was sold to a new owner the next day after that news spot hit the "presses". The new owner has already taken over and is serving both existing and new customers without issue, as far as I know. Smart move, otherwise I'm sure they'd be out of business today.
Jim, I see you didn't use water when drilling the hole. Did you have any heat issues doing it that way? I know most folks who drill use water to cool the hole as it is being drilled. Did you drill more slowly instead?
If avoiding the up and over allows you to run a smaller pump then I'd say...
I like the look of it, personally. I would open up the rock so it wasn't packed so tight, make it a bit more open so the fish can swim through the rock and leave the two islands. It looks good to me. Any more rock can go into the sump!
Great idea, Francis! We can start at our house. We're about to tear apart a nicely settled in display to put our Marco rock in. It would have been done Sunday, but we wanted a bit more time to recover should things take longer than expected.
Not that I'd recommend it, but by rinsing, I personally meant with saltwater from my system, not tap/rodi. That said, many people do have great success using used sand. *shrug* As with so many things in this hobby there are many many ways to get there.
I've always felt that with as much money...
Pushing your Ca that high may have dropped your Alk as well. Have you been watching that parm along with the raise in Ca? I've also read something about PO4 remover needing to be added with caution as it could have an affect on your PH, I believe. You may want to double check that.
Though Cap...
