really cool. I wish I lived closer to trop.
I noticed a frag in front of the bsjawfish home. Be warned - their digging behavior sometimes causes them to dump mouthfuls of sand on the nearest frag. Also my pearly likes to grab pepples/frags (if he could) and line the entrance and at night even...
JR - it's like a hundred bucks for a 6 gallon tank. I saw these being sold at TFP in lancaster. The design is cool and small - but at 6 gallons (even less when you add sand/lr)- you are really limited to what can be added in the tank. Also the surface-air exchange is poor because it only has...
welcome charlie!
I agree with nick. Go with something better than the maxi-jets. While cheap, mj-s produce a bit of heat to the tank and also tend to be a rather focused blast of water. I've never used the mod's -but if you are pinched for money - i guess that would be an alternate route.
thanks - i should have thought about talking to you. Completely forgot. You and Rod. Oh well.
So the best news - is that maybe this experience (losing 9 clowns in a day) was worth it as this third batch is doing remarkably well so far. 3 dead on day 1 (morning after), 4 dead on day 2. In my...
I thought I knew the answer to this - and it was would have been 3 weeks. It worked flawlessly with the first batch. BUT i'm starting to think the first batch were super healthy because they had all that food in there with them. The second batch - I want to say I messed up by trying to corale...
i may just add them into the main display when they get bigger...then it'll be a big pair with a bunch of juvies. I dunno yet. Or I could part with them. It will be hard to do.
For the 3rd batch I've lost 3 fry today. This is pretty good I think - but tomorrow will be more telling. I've been...
Catastrophe.
I got anxious and decided to set up the bc29. Moved the first batch from the 5g hex to the bc29. All survived.
Then I cleaned out the 5g hex, and prepared to catch the 17 percs remaining. I wanted the 10g to be the larvae tank.
So I caught them - just like I did the first batch...

I'm going to hit radio shack and get this tomorrow. I only need one, not 12. if you have one and would like me part with it - drop me a pm. Of course, if I don't hear from you by tomorrow, I'll have 11 extra. ;)
thanks guys. I am having a space issue now.
120 display (where parents are, and nest about to hatch in 24 hrs)
10g holding 19 baby percs (21 day old)
5g holding 5 baby percs (40 day old)
Only tank left is the bc29. I got to get the bc29 set up tonight. It'll be huge for them but I need space...
the tangs may just be under stress from being in a 90 gallon. Hate to bring this possible issue up.
I think chromis or similar dither fish would be the right move - as the tangs will cue on the dither fish being out and about and also come out. Anthias are also dither fish - so I'm not sure...
sorry george - when i wrote that i was thinking of someone else and quoted you instead. :P Anyways - I think the drive is worth it. But I would be in the dog house for a looooooooooooong time if I skipped out on the piano recital.
I've never been to something fishy - i assume that is also in...
Day 22, "FTS" Not exactly a ball, but a tight group of clowns, given they are occupying 1/10 the space of the 10 gallon tank. That is 17 of 19 clown fry. The other two are runts, not sure if they will make it.
I noticed that some of them have mis-barred "bars" - like the male perc. The bar...
I noticed last night my sea urchin had grabbed a hold of a disc of GSP. I didn't really much think twice about it and to my amusement I got some of these pics:

So I saw this comment on another board. Just want to make it clear - MACNA is not a swap meet. Macna is a place where a variety of speakers and hobbyists descend up on a single location for 3 days to talk/share/party (not necessarily in that order) and oogle at a variety of products. In the...
jawfishblocker 5000. Will the 6000 model be out soon? ;D
anyways - you could press your luck like me - I have a pair of pearlies and a firefish in an open top for the past year. Maybe the threadfin cardinalfish (my dither fish) make them feel safe? I dunno.
Just keep in mind if you use smaller microns and do not (as taz is doing) use them briefly only - then it will get gunked up very quickly if just left there.
fyi - for my rotifer cultures, the micron size I use is 53 to harvest.
i really need to get more filter bags. Been busy... :P
