Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I'm in Jackson, Rev's in Howell. Anyone who wanted to send stuff south to Ken (if he can't get to the meeting) could make the hand off to either Rev or us at the meeting.
I think the best course with sand is to fallow it for 2 to 3 weeks before swapping it around. That would require a "hospital" or QT tank for the sand until it was ready for distribution.
Taking 1 cup of sand is one thing... more than that of old sand is not a good idea.
We cured our rock in the main with the sand. I've never read anything to the contrary. The sand will settle and seed as part of the cycling process. This is actually desirable because the bacteria that colonates on the sand helps it to settle (especially the finer particulate).
If I were going...
The part "they" never tell you is that when it cycles you'll get brown stuff on the sand that comes and goes (diatoms), when the ammo part of the cycle hits you'll get cloudy like you've never seen and you'll be wondering what you did wrong. All perfectly normal. Don't panic.
Good luck with it...
This looks like a fun DIY project to do.
Ham, how many bulbs in your 4' fixture? One thing I thought was interesting about that fixture is that the LEDs aren't spread evenly over the tank. I don't suppose that's noticable when you're looking at it, huh? Wonder what went into that thinking.
Before using the tank for salt, make sure that there were never any chemicals (particularly copper) that were used to treat the fresh water tank.
The previously fresh water rock will need to cure while the "fresh water bacteria" dies off and a saltwater culture is created.
The rule of thumb is...
Nothing compares to an SLR. I tried going the route of "the best of the best" as far as the high end non-SLRs. That didn't work for me. Save yourself some money in the long run and get a D40 and one decent/versatile lens for it.
Nice eye, 68!
April Group Buys (Heads up)!
The group buys for April are stacking up to be the following:
Hydor pumps (TFJPetCenter.com)
Carbon
Phosban
Reactors
Bags (polyethelene 2mm frag/shipping bags)
Also, we'll be closing the shirt buy on the 24th to ensure delivery for the April meeting.
The unit is only an RO unit. You REALLY want RO/DI. You'll likely find that after the RO stages (3) you'll still have some TDS in your water (10-30?). You can probably add the DI stages on. Not sure when we're slated for the next Air Water Ice buy, but you can probably buy all the bits you need...
Jim, recruiting them is easy, keeping them in beer? That's a whole 'nother subject, lol!
Jose, that's great. Glad to hear you'll be making it, even if it is just to live vicariously through others!
I'm in the process of turning off folks who have not paid their dues (that were due as of February 28th). Your expiration date must have been recorded incorrectly. Sorry for the inconvenience!
