James, first off I'd suggest actually baking the baking soda at 350 degrees for one hour. The increased temperature assures all the bicarbonate will be converted to carbonate. And one hour isn't written in stone either....if it goes a little long, it can't hurt it. One batch I baked I...
Wow! My Mom typically bought me underwear and socks. :ambivalence:
You're Mom got it right! Merry Christmas.
Now DIY that two part......HERE's a good start.
I agree with @saltkreep88 .....Jagers are the best. Their glass is twice as thick as other glass heaters. The only thing I don't like is how long they are. And always have backups ready to go.
Herb I have extras to hold you over the holidays if you need them.
@art13 , I'm not sure what you do to maintain alk and calc, but by "fixing" your salinity, you also raised up you alk, calc and mag numbers. That is a possibility of why you saw improvement. I don't think it was the salinity alone.
I fully agree that 1.o22 isn't going to kill corals.
However, I am rather adamant that calibration solution should be used to calibrate your refractometer. Otherwise, I suggest going back and using a swing-arm hydrometer to measure salinity....about equal to a refractometer calibrated with...
Art, go as big as you can. Air is like water in a pipe, where friction is the big killer of flow. The bigger the pipe/tubing, the "easier" the air will get to were it needs to go. Distance is another factor as well, so keep it as short as you can. Good find! I like hearing about...
Marcus, I have an X-Terminator Shrimp trap. However, I got this is a box of stuff I bought and could never figure out how it worked. It looks like the door should snap shut fast, but it doesn't . I don't know if it's broken or missing a part or I'm just too dumb to figure it out. You're...
My output doesn't connect directly into the skimmer but darn close. In this picture, the clear pipe at the top of the picture is the output pipe of the reactor, with the pickup for the skimmer right there.
As I explained above, I cleaned my biopellet reactor for the first time after 3 1/2 + years and now it's spinning pellets like a top. This was about two weeks ago. At first my skimmer was spewing out the skimmate, but that recently slowed. At first I thought it was that it had now gotten...
Assuming the glass is in good shape, you should make out fine. Use silicone to attach the news ones....but you'll figure that out taking off the old ones! :D
"Popping" the frame off isn't easy. The ones I've removed have been very difficult and usually result in the old frame getting broken. A long razor like knife would be needed to get behind the frame and cut the silicone.....and the ones I did, the original installers must have loved silicone!
I've been noticing this yellow/orange spot on the cheek of my melanurus wrasse, thinking that it might have a problem....something involving it's gills. I hadn't noticed this before. I also noted that when I was feeding the fish, the spot was not there.
So I started noodling around on the...
Joe, I'm scratching my head on this one....any and all GSP should be out with lights on. First off, how long have you had it. My experience with GSP, if it's fairly new to the tank, it will take a week or two before it's happy. Now assuming you've had it for some time, my second guess is...
I just went back and looked at the earlier posts and now see that you stated the amounts you dosed per week. That's not that much. So again, using the above numbers, that's 160 mls/7 days, so now we're talking 23 mls per day....that's pretty light. How much hard coral do you have?
FYI...
