Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
actually with a 12 gallon tank i would just do water changes rather than mess with any additional buffers etc. But that's just my 2 cents. I've never run a small salt tank before (although back in 1989 I had a 29 gallon...that was not fun).
lenny looks like a scooter blenny - does the blenny...
i am not advocating this method but i spent the dollars on the PM kalk reactor group buy we had a while back and jury rigged it to my ATO. So when the ato tops off - it routes thru the kalk and dumps the kalk in.
I know you're supposed to set the timer on the reactor to stir every so often -...
Check out this link: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm
If calc is relatively high then it's supressing your alk. Raising the alk should in turn help increase your PH.
Also - when you say test strips - are you using some kind of paper to test the water? Unfortunately a lot...
hmm - i would say that is not a mithrax crab. Crab identification is very difficult but it is more than likely to be part of the family (or is it genus - I forget) of the Xanthid group. All are predatory and do not belong in a reef tank.
is the sharknose "viewable"? I always liked those gobies -especially given their tankbred nature. I was just wondering if the fish is 'lost' in the 180?
slip x slip.
pvc cement on the bulkhead to pvc.
I don't know if that is "Supposed" to be the way you do things but I did it. The downside is that if you have a problem with the bulkhead - you will need to cut the pvc. If you are around the metuchen area- you are welcome to drop by and take a look.
yeap - the Sea World Discovery Cove in FL also has that policy as I understand it.
I guess when you have people dumping dirty sewage and what not into the oceans - sunscreen seems like a minor issue. But I figure it's an easy thing for us, reefers to change and impact.
I heard about this and started to do a google search. Article from Jan 2008

In a nut shell, the researcher theorizes that:
Four commonly found sunscreen ingredients can awaken dormant viruses in the symbiotic algae...
i picked up bulkheads for my AGA 120 from AqOb - also slipxslip.
Here's a pic of some of the bulkheads underneath my tank:
here's an answer on the sizes from panmanmatt:

You will probably need...
is that with or without LR? ;D
oh i forgot to mention - if we really want to mimic say Jersey Shore - we should drop in a gallon of suntan lotion. :P :o
Speaking of which - Paul B (or anyone)- is sunscreen really that bad for the reef environment?
The PFO (now defunct) Solaris LED has progamming that allowed for cloudy days etc.
The Tunze Controller has a setting for wave / pulse action - but also "storm action" whereby all pumps are activated.
Even so these features do not truly mimic the ocean as we all know.
Probably should go into the useless category.
I wanted to find something where I could use a pair of tongs to grab items or move items without having to put on the shoulder-length gloves. I thought a 30" pik stik tongs would be great.
The stupid design fills the tongs up with water (making it...
Just read about that loss - I'm sorry to hear that. I thought you were able to sell it as I saw the FS ad.
Will you be replacing it with a new helfrechi now that the damsel is gone?
