Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
With airlines charging for checked luggage it may be cheaper/easier to just have them shipped back to you. If it was just the mandarin a thermos packed in your suitcase would work perfectly.
Bag him up, put him in a thermos and stick him in your checked baggage. Or you can see if the store has any styrofoam shipping boxes. pack him in one of those and check him as luggage.
Tropicals are just starting to arrive. I dove Shark River Inlet (Ocean ave) Thursday night but didn't see any. Some of the other divers thee said they had started seeing them earlier that week. Seems like the Gulf Stream is in pretty close right now. Bottom temp was 70 and vis was about 10-12...
Definitely a deresa now that I can see the mantle and shell shape better. They are sand dwellers but I would try putting a flat piece of rock just under the substrate for it to attach it's foot to. The rock will also help keep and critters from getting into the bysal(foot) of the clam.
Doesn't look like a deresa to me but it's hard to tell from that pic. Can you get on when it is more open and with a little less blue to it? I am leaning towards T. crocea by the smooth shell and the paterning on the mantle. Deresas have more of a lined pattern on their mantle. If it is indeed a...

My actinics run from 10:30 am to 9:30 pm. Daylights run from 11:30 am to 8:30 pm. No particular reason why that schedule but having the actinics on an hour at each end of the daylights simulates a dawn/dusk scenario.
I would imagine you could catch them with snorkel gear.

Yup we usually just all grab our gear and meet up there.
Where do you live? That would help determine if their is a dive shop close to you.
BTW, you are going to need a mask, fins, wet suit (5 or 7mm in thickness), BC, tank, regulator/gauges, weight belt and weights. Everything but mask and fins can be rented.
