Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
It was most likely a juvenile blowfish. The colouration you have described is very common for them. Since the waters have been cleaning up over the last few years their colours have become more vibrant.
I highly doubt it is a tropical puffer as the waters are nowhere near warm enough for them...
That seahorse has been in many different tanks over the years. He just moves it to the nano from time to time. Heck, a person can live in a closet but they aren't going to be happy or live to their full potential.
I'm not even sure that set up would work for dwarfs. I'd have to see one up and...
I would not recommend putting seahorses in that tank. With a tank volume of a mere 5 gallons it is not even close to being large enough for seahorses.
It would make a really nice tank for a couple small gobies though.
Thanks John. I am definitely up for a few dives this year. The water really wasn't that cold. Matthew dove with a 7mm farmer John suit with no hood or gloves and he was fine.
I'll see if I can get some pics up from this weekend. Not sure how many were taken but I know a few at least.
Thanks Mike.
I am definitely thinking of going back at least for 1 more weekend out there. Hopefully even a few more. I am definitely seeing an NJRC trip out there.
Thanks Phyl.
Yup we completed our last dive this morning.
The fishies have no fear of divers up there. They are literally less than a foot from your face waiting for food. We were catching crayfish from under the rocks and holding them up for the bass to eat.
I definitely need to invest in a...
Just got back from a weekend at Dutch Springs. Water was 66 at the platform yesterday. Thanks to some heavy overnight rains it was 63 today.
I was in a 5mm full suit with a 5mm jacket and it was warm. Gloves and hoods were optional.
We had a blast hand feeding the fishies today.
You can keep the sponge filter in a 5 gallon bucket with a small piece of LR to keepit cycled. Just feed the bucket a couple times a week to keep the bacteria alive.
Nah, no sticks for me. I enjoy my softies too much.
But cutters can be used on some of the LPS though.
I may need a frag pack for a friend of mine though, I'll let ya know.
How do you know your fish is diseased when you get it? And copper is not effective against disease it is used to treat certain parasites.
IF your fish is showing no outward signs then you have no idea what to treat for. QT period is for observation to make sure the fish doesn't show any signs...
I prefer the cycled sponge as it makes the tank more stable. QT period should be at least 6 weeks. In that time period the fish is eating and producing waste, a cycled sponge filter will break down that waste before it reaches toxic levels just live the LR does in your display tank. With just a...
You can set up a simple QT tank with a 10 gallon tank, air driven sponge filter, air pump and some small pieces of PVC pipe for the fish to hide in. This can be done for under $30. IMHO, $30 is a small drop in the bucket considering we spend hundreds of dollars on some of our livestock. Think of...
The meetings are open to members and non-members alike. You can bring your completed application and money to the meeting and join there. The meetings include general chatter amongst friends, plenty of great food, a small discussion on club business/activities and a raffle for numerous coral...
A T with a 45 elbow coming off the side will work also if you can't find a Y fitting. Or you can just use flex PVC for your returns and make nice gradual bends in it.
A "T" fitting would work ok but a "Y" fitting would work better. T's cause a lot of friction which leads to a great deal of flow loss. A "Y" fitting is a smoother transition thus reducing friction.
