Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Trop also has the new 200 gallon Starphire tank on display.
I saw the 300 gallon version at IMAC recently and that thing is a beast. I spent a small fortune on raffle tickets for it but still didn't win.
Not a problem.
Some folks are just blessed with not being able to keep it. I'd just take what you can right now and see how the other xenia does for you long term. Maybe one day down the line you'll be able to keep the pom-pom too.
Checking it in the morning and evening will tell you how much it varies. Most folks experience a drop in PH when the lights go out. Depending on how well your water is buffered will depend on how big of a swing you will see.
The pink pom-pom seems to be more sensitive to swings. They also tend...
What is your PH and how much does it fluctuate? Xenia likes a stable PH of 8.1-8.2 anything less and it will usually melt away.
Also some tanks just can't support xenia for some reason. Out of the 13 tanks I have all but 3 will support.
Most LFS sell DT's phytoplankton which is a mix of several species of phyto. Not good for starting a culture with.
Here is a place I can recommend for getting some pure starter cultures from. http://www.seahorsesource.com/cgi-bin/shop/search.cgi?&category=Foods-Algaes
Welcome back Boomer. We missed you around here.
I will be at IMAC this year but not MACNA. If you want to get together I'll be at the Seahorse.Org booth most of the time.
Good luck Francis. The end of my street, which ends at Barnegat Bay, was flooded up to the first 3 blocks. The water was crashing over the bulkhead like something you'd see on "Deadliest Catch".
I know quite a few of us have our locations in our signatures.
Giving folks a place to fill in their location doesn't mean they will. I help run another forum where we have the location line in the user info section and on the registration page. I can tell you that 90% of the folks still don't...
Best way to transport them is very carefully. :D I'm sorry, but couldn't resist.
Are you getting it from a store or a private seller? Either one of them should be able to properly package it up for you.
I think they would help with water changes nicely as they'd probably blow the water out of the tank.
For that size tank I'd go with two number 1 or even the nanos.
No guess but I'd get that snail off of there as quickly as possible and QT those zoas if I were you. That is a zoa eating sundial snail. Hopefully it is the only one but chances are you will have others or at least eggs on there somewhere.
You may want to try a dip with either Lugols solution or...
