Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
They USED to be called H. hudsonius, correct. However after doing some more research they have been re-classified as H. erectus. That species is found from the tip of Florida all the way up to the coast of Mass and possibly further.
And yes they are still off of our coast and there numbers...
Re: lighting ?
Your tank/corals will be fine with actinics only for a week. If they can go 3-5 days with no light at all I would think that a week with actinics is ok. I have gone 4 days with just actinics in the summer time to keep the heat down and every5hing survived just fine.
Enjoy your...
Congrats o the upgrade, Andy. Let me know when you're ready for the big move and I'll give you a hand.
I don't have any dry rock but you may want to check out Marco Rocks, he's a club sponsor and has great rock.
Because I happen to like macro algaes. I have one tank set up that is nothing but different macros. It won't be in with any corals so if it covers all the rocks then that's fine.
If you are going to toss it, I would be interested in getting some from you. I am always looking for different macros. I don't hardly ever get up your way, but macros are easy to ship.
Good point,Rich. You should never have any corals or live rock in any treatment tank for fish. Most, actually all, meds are toxic to your bio filter and and most corals. It will kill your LR leading to water quality issues which you don't want in a treatment tank.
Garlic does no good unless you feed it daily. The amount it takes for the cysts to fall off can not be given in a short time. It is more of a preventative measure than a treatment. Of course it won't hurt to feed it in conjuction with a copper or hyposalinity treatment. Any and all treatments...
Add your own to what you are feeding them now. Garlic can be gotten at your grocery store in the form of McCormack's garlic juice found in the spice aisle, Vit C can be the same as you would take yourself. You can either grind up a tablet or if you can find it in capsules open one up and...
Be extremely careful!!! 10 gallon tanks have very very thin glass at will crack under the slightest pressure. They are one of he hardest tanks to drill.
Melafix and Primafix are FW meds and basically useless in SW. IMHO, don't waste the time and money to use it.
As for the garlic it is multi purposed, it is an immune booster and also an appetite stimulant. As for that parasites not liking garlic, the fish need to consume it every day, not just...
They will need rotifers as food for the first 2-3 weeks then can be weaned over to newly hatched brine shrimp.
They don't hitch at birth so need to be kept in constant motion through the use of airlines. No filtration in the tank and daily water changes of 50-75% are needed to keep water quality...
I would start off with a good varied diet enriched with some garlic and vitamin C. Also if you can get it, try adding some Beta Glucan to the food as well. You an usually find it at a Vitamin/Health food store. Beta Glucan is an immuno stimulant for fish and it will help promote the healing...
Mynd, not all bulkheads of a given size require the same whole. Schedule 80 bulkheads require a different size hole than Schedule 40. Even bulkheads from different manufacturers can sometimes require different size holes.
Your best bet is to get the bulkheads in hand and then have the holes...
