You will be fine as far as the SPS corals growing. I have clams on the bottom growing great.
Brightness factor, that is a word that is hard to quantify....not exactly par.
I would say it will not be as bright...you won't have the shimmer MH gives you or LEDs give.
However, the colors I think...
That statement is opinion and not fact, sand, no sand, deep sand, bed shallow sand bed are all ways to go; and one of the great arguments of our hobby. Hey PaulB has crushed coral for what 35 years? Anything can be done.
I like sand, there are animals that rely on it. I am bordering on DSB so...
And they run hotter then T5s. Use more energy.
Summing it up for you.
1)Shorter bulb life
2)Color shifts quickly causing algae (or adding to problem, yeah yeah without nutrients you won't have algae ;))
3)Ballests are unreliable...think is due to heat.
4)Lower par...older technology
5)Cost of...
It may be too little or too much flow. I have a euphyllia corner of my tank, 6-7 different colony/frags, I can tell you that 1 frogspawn smack in the middle is more sensitive then all the rest and closes up more often then the rest. Why? I have no clue whatsoever.
You don't need to move it up I...
I would say I like emerald crabs better then hermits. They are useful but Hawkeye points out some pitfalls ... also make sure you get the emerald mithrax crab not some other "emerald crab" there are plenty of horror stories where someone gets the wrong one.
I know some members have them...should take Ed up on his offer though, you can get the inside scoop.
They are UVL bulbs, I have not seen the par readings for the Deepwater or Twighlight blue.
Without looking it up the Aquasun or 10K is really good like 340-345 and the 12K is upper two hundreds.
Use the pump to run a reactor that is what I did...then it goes back and recycles to the beginning of the fuge, so long as you have an area in the fuge with some calmer water the cheato can get a lot of flow.
I have a Mag 12 on mine, you don't lose much head room with the tech stand. I actually T'd it of for a TLF reactor because I wanted to cut down on the waterfall sound. Think the stock dursos are little deep. With it in the living room I wanted it as quiet as possible.
