Always the case you need to balance your tank as best you can with biological, mechanical and chemical filtration. You I believe have enough room for a fairly deep sand bed.
Mine is about 4 inches ...but my DT has a very deep sandbed, actually deeper the the fuge.
Not to be repetive but I have...
Mysis or brine shouldn't be an issue at all. Shrimp have to be fairly small, figure the mouth on a frogspawn 3-5MM so mysis is great size. I know they can take larger pieces, I feed krill fairly often breaking one krill into 4-5 pieces maybe.
Another issue is how much flow do they have?
I believe it is better to feed, of course there are corals you don't need to feed but it is natural for them to feed. Usually my corals don't stay small for long. Could be you are feeding too large pieces of food?
I was referring to the cost of running a pump like a Mag 12 vs the cost of running a couple Koralia powerheads or something similar. That said there are things you can do like run carbon, UV ect that will help in filtration. Figure some folks still run canister filters on FOWLER tanks.
+1...
Not really worth the cost unless you are running some sort of manifold with carbon, UV, or something. But most add ons like that need a lower flow. Otherwise power heads create flow with less energy.
Phyl if you can remove some mangroves from your overflow you could add a plastic pot in your sump with some mud/sand with a hanging light above it. I do similar thing with my little outdoor fish tub in the summer.
I am not suggesting that..just to add something different then a 4th tang.
Part of the problem is they have the same behaviors and niche so competition exists.
A trigger(only as one suggestion) would occupy a different niche.
I was thinking ...this is a chance for you to get some different fish. Your tank is big enough for a trigger which you would want to get last or any number of different fish. Fish each display their own set of behaviors so diversity is interesting.
Sunny I wouldn't suggest it. Hippo and powder blue are both pretty shy and you don't want to upset the balance. PB could easily be harrassed by yellow or purple.
What I did was let nature take its course. Just let one float at the end of my sump. Eventually roots will come out one end and they reach down into the mud. Some leafs have sprouted.

I cannot find anything at first glance besides the above link. I know in the nano forums people do it. Hopefully someone will chime in. But using LR rubble in place of the bio balls and cheato in place of the filter pad really shouldn't be a risk that...
Hey the price is right. I have not done one but judging from the pics and what I have read remove the bio balls and sponges. Put LR and cheato in place with a small clip on type lamp over the cheato and you have instant fuge. ;D. Lots of folks do it I am sure you can find pics.
If you still have the RBTA I can tell you that the one I got from you guys sits right in front of one of my controlled pumps. 3 minutes on and off nothing fancy.
I had a sorta cool thing happen the other day. I was cleaning the glass with scraper and my naso was following the scraper around eating the algae as it floated away.
My angel also follows my 4 line wrasse around, guess they are both sorta purplish.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.
So it has been about 2 months.
Equipment updates.
Got one new Koralia Evolution nice...bit smaller output the same as the K4 less watts.
Changed from mesh mod to purple pin wheel on my sicce pump.
So here are my observations, volume of bubbles is...
