Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I see no reason why you cannot leave the tank as is - in a 'minimalist' set up. The only thing more rock buys you is the potential for detritus (aka crud) to collect in the back. Yes there is the positive of some anaerobic bacteria buried in the rock somewhere - but I would bet your nitrates go...
Re: AGA 120 (very few pictures and lots of dull writing)
Well - brief update on the black sand question. I posted a question to the good Dr. Ron Shimek over on the MD forum and he provided the following answer:
I also have black sand in my tank, it presents a very natural appearance. As...
never knew that - but it does make sense...lol. I don't have any experience here since slightly elevated levels of copper = death to inverts in the tank. If I were to use it - I'd only use it in my QT.
The way I see it - there are so many variables in the tank (like having sand that is...
I am sorry - I meant locking it.
Anyways - I decided on merging the two threads - so we can keep track of everything here.
It's a little bit jumbled - but for the most part - the gist of your questions are here.
Interesting set up!
Have you thought about removing some sand? Reason I ask is that at that level - it looks almost parallel (same height) as your spraybar. Maybe it's the pic - but that's what is looks like. If you remove some height from the sand -t hen the spraybar would theoretically blow...
SWEET - I really like it. So much better than my scape...dang now I am going to pull all my rock out and try building it again like you have there! ;D ;)
It doesn't always work - but there are threads about people feeding asterina starfish - which are easily captive-bred since they reproduce by fission. The only catch is that there is one species (out of the unknown dozens/hundreds/thousands) that supposedly eats corals.
The ones I have came...
You could also use zip ties to help stabilize the structure. Eventually the coralline will hide the ties. Or you could break out a drill and start inserting some acrylic rods. I think someone here also suggested plastic hangers instead of acrylic rods.
Re: new tank starting
Ha - very very funny. ;) Moderators are not to be jested with. ;) ;) just kidding!
Some of my favorite reef-related books are listed on the first post of this thread:
do you mean cycle? depends on what you are getting. I purchased live sand and all of my live rock was...
I thought the only way to remove copper was thru the use of poly fiber and multiple water changes. Even then there is no guarantee if the LR was treated with copper.
Just takes a long time as you can never be sure how long it will take to leech out.
basically, if a pump is pumping water out with NO restriction - it's going to pump at 900gph. But, lets say you want the water to go all the way from the bottom of your stand - to the top of the tank. You need to measure that distance in feet and that is known as your "head loss". Then check the...
you have a CLS/spraybar on the bottom and adding tunze phs? i'd love to see a pic of this. I always thought people either did one or the other - closed loop or powerheads...not both. Or am I mis-reading it?? ???
gorgeous tang! I have never ordered from there - heard a lot of good things previously about small items (e.g. clean up crew) but never anything positive on the fish - looks like you got a winner!
Did you QT the PBT or did you just place it direct?
jon - with tunze equipment, I always always go to roger on RC for help.
Regardless whether I bought the equipment new or used - the support team they have there is nothing short of remarkable.
