Praveen, easy to tell them apart.....the "original" MJ's have printing on the body and a white impeller. The Chinese have embossed/raised printing on the back, with a purple impeller. EDIT TO ADD: I found a ReefBreeders article describing the differences HERE.

There is no need to test nitrite. Nitrite is of no concern for saltwater creatures. Even if you see it's there, it has no impact on the tank.
