    Getting Out :(

Wow! I always took you as a city person. Life in the south is different. I have a house 70 miles east of Charlotte. The head of engineering at our NC facility use to say that there are two speeds down there, slow and slower. You also better like NASCAR....that's what you find on...

    Picky Pajamas

Are Pajama Cardinals known picky eaters? I've had a pair for about a month and a half and the only thing they eat are shrimp. I've tried flakes, pellets, frozen mixed, frozen black worms and nothing. However, mysis, either frozen or freeze dried, they eat. Tonight I tried shimp...

    Juano's 75 Gallons "The Re-Build"

Juan, I feel your pain. When we upgraded to the current tank in 2007, we were up until 2 AM, and went to bed. When we woke, the tank looked like someone dumped a couple gallons of milk into it, and the better part of the corals were dead....and more than half the fish. Our guess, having...

    Ouch! Heat!

I'm in good shape.....about 3 1/2 hours and now down to 80.9. Thanks again.

    Ouch! Heat!

Thanks Mike, but I'd prefer to have it come back down slowly. Slow is the way to go!

    Ouch! Heat!

I spent the day outdoors today cleaning up the backyard. I came in 30 minutes ago, never thinking about the heat, and I found the tank at 83.3 degrees. Immediately turned on the air, but that thermal mass will easily take overnight to get back down to temperature. Need to pay closer...

Is this Bleach Safe for Cleaning Filter Socks

Joe, that bleach is just fine. It's marketing. All bleach is germicidal. I looked at the ingredients and concentrations and it's just bleach! Just rinse well and let air dry until no odor of bleach.

    Inherited 90

With the addition of this third fixture to my canopy, I now have an issue with all the cords. Each fixture has two cords, one for blues and one for whites, while one fixture has a third wire for moon lights. In addition I have two old IceCap moonlight fixtures with two more cords/wall warts...

    Glass scraper

One of the best buys I ever made was a Reef Gadget.....designed and built by a former NJRC member from South Jersey. Simple, elegant, inexpensive and very effective.....glued onto your MAG float. Unfortunately they are no longer available. However, I think similar devices are, so check...

    Inherited 90

The old rack was simply inexpensive fir strips from HD: The issue with this rack is that it drooped from the weight of the two fixtures and I had to add a brace in the middle. I didn't realize this until I add the T5's and the droop was too great for me to install four foot...

    Inherited 90

Built the rack to hold the lights and installed all three fixtures. The new Chinese guy is in the middle, and you can clearly see it has lenses. Here they are with blues only. It's not real clear in the following full tank shot, but the lenses cause for a brighter center section of...

    Zippys tank

I just shudder thinking that that beautiful tank is going to be torn down. Pete, congrats on the upcoming upgrade and move, and if I'm around, I'm there to help. And I'm one of those homeowners trying to sell a house where I've already been told, because of code changes, will have to most...

How to lower TDS and improve water quality

Mark, don't count your chickens before the well is dug! Depends on the aquifer you're cutting into, because many Jersey aquifers are high in CO2, which will eat through DI resin within a day. Just hope you're not tapping one of those aquifers. If you are, there are fixes.
