Any fish you put in the fuge will totally defeat the purpose have setting it up in the first place. A refugium is a "refuge" or safe place for your pods and such to populate and reproduce. If you introduce a predator then they will not be able to do so and you will basically have another display...
It was a design flaw that has since been corrected. That is what the recall was about and the reason they were on backorder for so long.
I haven't heard of anybody that got replacements having any problems with them now.
Also try gently tapping the side of the hydrometer once you get the water in it. Sometimes small air bubbles will collect on the swing arm and casue it to float up to the top.
Yup, same set up I have. But like I said, how would you get your sump out if anything happens to it if you put it in from the top? That brace across the top holds the front and back of the stand together. Very similar to the center brace on the tank itself.

Well another great meeting is in the books. A huge thanks to Ken and Dana for opening up their lovely home to us. Your home and tanks were fantastic.
As usual there was plenty of food, drinks and good times. It was great seeing some of the old faces and meeting some of the new ones as well...
Doesn't matter. I alternate between the 2. If I am going to do a water change on my fragtank, I syphon from the sump. Regular water changes I do from the main tank so I can syphon the detritus off the rocks and sand bed.
I'll take the following:
