Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I've actually had the long nose since 2008.....and I don't know what the secret is. I've actually tried copperbands two times, and refuse to kill any more of these fish. I just couldn't figure out the copperbands.....and the crazy thing with both was that they ate in the LFS but refused to...
So for some reason my yellow tang has gotten aggressive towards my long nose yellow butterfly. I don't understand...they've been tank-mates since maybe five years, and have lived very happy together. And to boot, I've got another zebrasoma in there for the yellow to beat on, and he only...
And who might accept the liability when some blithering idiot member shoots that laser at a plane. I hate to be negative Nancy, but unfortunately you have to think about these things in today's environment.
Nitrates don't go away on there own....they need to be "exported." Do you have a sump/refugium and are you running a skimmer?
Anyway, if you haven't been doing water changes, I'd start with a water change.
And FYI, nitrite isn't an issue with saltwater tanks. Even so, that should quickly...
The problem with forums is that you can't pick up cynicism, innuendo and snarky comments.
So Phil, I'm not sure if you're being snarky or if your kids have had you locked up in a closet for ten months.
The Giro, according to some, supposedly is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It...
I also changed out the Koralia nano powerhead I had in the refugium. This POC (piece-of-crap) had started to stall and required me to to put a toothpick into the front of the powerhead to "start" the pump. I originally liked Koralia when they had simple numbers....like the K4's. Still use...
A month or so ago I picked up some Caulerpa from Sunny. I threw it in my refugium, which has a deep sandbed and a powerhead. When I had cheato in there, it wasn't an issue because the ball of cheato just seemed to tumble around as a ball. However, with the Caulerpa, it "planted" itself in...
Gee whiz, that thing looks like a major-large light sabor from Star Wars......mine is bigger than yours!
Matt, with you going zap-happy, I just envision you with a snarky psycho smirk on your face, with that laser glow in your eyes, while you're vaporizing everything.
:o :o
Doing a little closet cleaning and realized I still had these. Last chance before they go to the recycler. I most likely will be going to this month's meeting at Herb's. Let me know.
You know, I have one simple request.....

show me this frickin laser zapping those ugly beasts....and you don't even have to attach that laser to your head!
Anything and everything is possible. If you bounce a ball on a brick wall, eventually all the molecules in the ball will be going in the same direction as the wall, and the ball will pass right through the wall. However, the likelyhood is extremely slim (with the ball and the wall, and the...
No...for two reasons. The play sand/pool sand is most likely treated with stuff and secondly, it is silica based sand. The sand we need to use in our tanks is aragonite based (calcium based). Check out either Petco or PetSmart. One of them has aragonite based sand at relatively low cost...
The precipitation of the calcium to calcium carbonate in the container will lower the amount of calcium available to your tank. Calcium carbonate at tank pH will never resolubilize. Granted, this amount will not be that large, where it makes a significant difference, but it's still happening...
John, just to be clear, mine are covered as well. Originally used one gallon juice jugs, but refilling them was difficult through the small opening in the top. These cereal containers have that wide door-like opening, making refilling very easy.
Carbon Dioxide Precipitating my Calc Solution
So I went to top off my calc container today and as I begin to dump in fresh solution, I see a milky white precipitate getting kicked up. My holding containers for alk and calc are one gallon cereal containers with wide mouth openings. Here's a...
