    Dosing Pump Tubing

"Air tubing" is rather generic and does not specify what the tubing is made of. It could be anything from "plastic" to silicone, PVC, polyurethane, fluoropolymer, thermoplastic elastomer, etc. I would highly recommend the tubing you use for a peristaltic pump is a high grade silicone...

PETCO to acquire Drs. Fosters and Smith

Putting on my business cap, I want to believe that Petco purchased Dr F & S for their online business expertise. Hopefully they will be hands off, utilizing their distribution to bring down shipping costs for Dr F & S. The Dr. F & S is too strong to let it go. Just wait and see.

    Instant Ocean Salt Mix

I too am an IO user....and dose to keep my alk and calc were I like it. A "50 gallon bag" makes approximately 41 gallons at 1.026. What I like about it is that it is ocean water....same parameters as ocean water....and that is what I want when doing a water change.

New 420 gal Plus reef tank build in m y sunroom

This build looks phenominal! Love the pictures...looks real clean. But I do have to question, why schedule 80. We have nothing that comes close to the pressures rated for schedule 80. You lose internal diameter when using schedule 80.

    Spotter's long distance tank build...

Wow, wow and wow! The slideshow went too fast. But I liked everything I saw. Loved the pictures of what I'm assuming were the kids, you and whomever. Tagging along to see more. As far as those commenting on moving to NC....I have a house down there (that I'm trying to...

Lab grade ph probe, worth the extra $?

Nope! No damage done with soaking in vinegar. This is a weak acid which will clean out any calcifications that have occured on the probe. Just make sure you rinse the probe well before recalibration.

Lab grade ph probe, worth the extra $?

Here's the poop on pH probes....for our use, the ebay/inexpensive ones are just fine. Here's what you need to do: Always keep it wet. Do NOT ever submerse the top part of the probe. Calibrate with pH 7 and pH 10 standards. If it gets eratic, soak in vinegar overnight, rinse and...

    Pearling

If I'm not mistaken, I believe "pearling" was when tiny oxygen bubbles formed at the tips of plants in a freshwater tank....and looked like tiny pearls. Since most of use don't have plants in our reef tanks, I'm going to guess the "pearling" you are seeing are the oxygen bubbles generated for...

Would you rather have a calcium reactor or........

I'm old school and really like ReefKeeper 2's. I now own four of them....three in use and one as a backup. You can find them for $100 or less....I think I paid $50 for the last one I purchased. As evident by the fact that I can program it, you can be a blithering idiot and figure out how...

Would you rather have a calcium reactor or........

Calc reactors scare me! I heard too many stories of them going haywire and wiping out a tank. We've had a few members here who have had problems with calc reactors....hopefully they'll chime in. I'm a doser using BRS 1.1 pumps and DIY alk and calc solutions. After original expensive...

    Eheim Jager heater owners!

As stated, it could be as simple as a Ranco. I'm into "old school" ReefKeeper 2's, which you can find for under 100 bucks. The last one I purchased, I paid $50.

    Eheim Jager heater owners!

A BIG plus 1! The size of the tank has nothing to do with controlling temperature. Every heater will eventually fail....protect your tank with a controller.

Bare bottom aka BB is the best :)

Here's my two cents..... I have a JBJ 28 bare bottom and a 90 gallon with sand. The bare bottom is more of a PIA when trying to keep it clean. So I'm going with sand!
