Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Wow that is interesting - did they give you a scientific name for these crabs? I don't believe I've seen any horseshoe crab other than those king-sized ones on the east coast.
These guys grow huge - really should not be kept in a reef tank in my humble opinion.
What I do (similar to what Rich posted) is rather than turn the bag, I snip a small corner off and pour thru the hole. There tends to be a lot of suspended particles no matter how much you wash the sand...
how do you like the solaris lighting? I know you reported early on it was great - just wondering if you had pluses/minuses since you've had the fixture now for a while. Tank looks great!
I also like the eheim quality - no experience with the return pump but the cannisters have always been awesome.
Interesting someone else had the same thought as you on these two pumps:

In my 55 I had a tunze 6060 and a seio (i forget which) on the other side. I could see a pair of koralias - but I think a pair of tunzes may be overkill. My sand doesn't sweep up but that's because it's more the crushed coral from the gulf of mexico kind.
Either way though - I agree with...
"High Pressure Sodium lamps are used in greenhouses to elevate the red, orange and yellow electromagnetic wavelengths hitting the plant."
Are you asking because you think the other alternatives (t5, led, vho, pc, mh) are not suitable for your needs? Or is this like a cost analysis?
I never...
When you mentioned LPs - the first thing that popped into my head was Shaun of the dead and the scene where they argue what albums to throw at the zombie.
Ed: 'Purple Rain'?
Shaun: No.
Ed: 'Sign o' the Times'?
Shaun: Definitely not.
Ed: The 'Batman' soundtrack?
Shaun: Throw it.
Ed: 'Dire...

Maybe someone with experience on the pre-filter question is on this equipment forum.
agree with mike. In case you can't find someone - I drive thru green brook to get to work. I'll help on one condition...I get to bring my 6 yr old daughter over and watch the grouper eat. I'm sure she'd have a blast. ;)
I'm pretty sure there was an episode of "Dirty Jobs" on Discovery Channel and that guy mike was in a scuba/snorkel outfit getting the poo (hippos not in the enclosure with him obviously). It looked gross - like everything else on that show (but like a car accident, I can't help but look).
When on the photobucket page, just click ONCE in the Fourth Line- the one that reads IMG code.
Then just click "paste" here - and post it...

not to my knowledge, if anything you could try setting up a do-it-yourself trap on the outflow - maybe some filter or something to just temporarily stop the bubbles until the skimmer breaks in.
Anyone else have thoughts on pre-filtering the water before it reaches the skimmer?
