Very cool Jon! I love hearing about getting tanks into classrooms. Getting kids excited or even introducing a reef to them in any way is awesome, but to have a real one that they can watch and interact with and learn from is simply the best.
Good luck with it and let me know if you need help...
Doug, are you interested in selling that stuff? If I actually had the parts, it might force me to get a breeding station setup! Let me know via PM if you are.
Dave, I would recommend to just do a google search on "Breeding black worms". You will find plenty of instructions on how to set it...
Great topic. It's always good to see how other people do stuff because it fosters ideas that may help everyone improve their own maintenance rituals.
I'll break down my system into 3 parts: RODI, Salt Mixing, Water Change... but try to give as much details on each as possible.
RODI - My RODI...
I have one that I use for my skimmer collection container (which is outside of my sump and if overflowed would be all over my carpet.) I put it inside of this and have my skimmer plugged into the controlled outlet. If the skimmer goes nuts and the container fills up, this will turn off my...
John, if you're looking for a cheap way to put wheels on a brute, I was in Harbor Freight the other day and saw they had some mini "dollies" for like $12 each.

They looked like they were the perfect size for a Brute to...
Interesting idea. I think the two pod culture tanks might be overdoing it. You might be able to eliminate one of them and get the same effect and make it easier to maintain (unless your having 2 simply for the extra volume). I do have some concerns about having those cultivation tanks with...
That first pic does look like a sponge, but I doubt that would be strong enough to break a shell apart. Might be something else.
The pic is a bit blurry to say for certain.
No problem. As you could see, there was still plenty left even after I cut you some.
As for the stain, I've been told that the pine absorbs stain a lot more than oak, so if you are staining some of each, you might want to put an extra coat on the pine wood to make up for the extra absorption.
I think the only manageable way to do this would be as Paul suggested... float activated sump pump in sump under the frag tank. Still, I agree this method likely will cause headaches.
Is there any way you can just setup a frag tank next to the sump tank? Might be easier to plumb it if it's...
Hey Jim, I totally missed this thread somehow. It was looking great as of last post.
Question... what "padding" did you use between the tank and stand? I'm thinking of doing something like that for my new build.
