damn hair algea.... what likes to eat it?

Some sea urchins will eat it. Some conchs will do a good job on it too. Of course best way is to starve it out of existence. Good combination of skimmer and refugium will do it. Funny little story I got frag with a little algae (not hair just algae) on it at the meeting well this morning the one...

    Cheapest lighting to run??

There is no way to argue with Bill's colors. I guess I need to get a PAR meter at some point. My lights though don't seem to run that hot. But they are suspended and not enclosed so maybe that makes a difference.

    Cheapest lighting to run??

Big difference between FOWLR and Reef Tank Then you have softies vs LPS vs SPS Or are you talking fuge. I mean in my fuge I have a 7 dollar clip on spot light with an incandescent bulb....and I am growing cheato like a pro. I don't think you want to put any SPS in there though.  ;) So what do...

    Need help on getting T5's into a Oceanic canopy (36" / 70g)

You could also go with the Catalina fixture. Standard Dimensions: 36 in x 8¼ in x 2 5/8 in http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_136&products_id=1418 and Retro http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_7_68&products_id=1441

Red Slime = Diatoms = let it run it's course?

I think it is best to get it out yes. Get a test kit too at some point for Phos and SI, I know I have the Phos one if you are close to Little Silver you can use it for a few tests. Be careful you may release some ammonia if you take rocks out of deeper sand. I didn't go that route when I did...

Red Slime = Diatoms = let it run it's course?

Just checking you are using RO water right? I cannot stand PC/FC lighting I know it is cheaper but you really have to keep up with bulb replacement and it gives off a ton of heat compared to T5 or VHO florescent. Anyway good luck with the water change you are doing the right thing...make sure...

    looking to add a fish

Here is a don't. Don't get a bicolor pseudocromis...in a 24G AP mine was a terrrorrrrrrr. I would stay away from all pseudocromises. Green clown goby or maybe a shrimp goby w/pistol shrimp?

Red Slime = Diatoms = let it run it's course?

Hello, I didn't see if anyone asked any of these really important questions. Temp?  Salinity?  Do you use RO/DI water?  If not you may just be adding silicate to your mess. I should state that I had your problem bad and Mynd and couple others straightened it out. Here is the easy way to do it...

    Sedivec's 3 gallon Picotope

A shrimp goby might pair up with a pistol shrimp if that is what you have. Lots of the shimp gobys stay small.

    Problems with Calurpa & Cheato

I would go with reverse light cycle also. To do so you probably want to go with cheato as you don't want the calurpa going sexual on you. And I also agree with Phyl if you don't have good flow in your fuge add a power head. My fuge is inline from drain to my pump so I get great turnover, but it...
