I have the 1500 and run the drains to each of the corners of a 40 breeder sump. Here’s a picture of the back of the tank, where you can see the two drains and the return:
And here is an old picture of the old sump where you can see the setup of the sump with two drains entering each...
It's not so much the number of returns (although that plays into the head loss calculations), but more the size of your return pump. What pump are you planning on using?
I’d trade my age (and pains….knees are shot!) for youth in a second. I can only say, wait until you hit that magic number. With me, it was around 58, where everything started to hurt.
Here’s the deal…..either a 700 or 1500 will work on a 75. I personally would go with the 1500 and put a MAG 9.5 in the sump as my return. But that’s just me.
The bottom line is that you want to make sure your return pump doesn’t exceed the capacity of the overflow.
I worked on my tank today. For me, that’s a major accomplishment. Being retired is hard work. I’m serious! I had more time to play when I worked a 9 to 5…I just don’t know where my time goes!
So today I finally installed the bioreactor I picked up a month and a half ago. To...
I like your “go slow” approach. That’s a sign of success in this hobby.
Don’t know if you’ve seen it, but here is the standard stand frame that many use. I’ve used this on my 90 gallon DT. With a four foot 75 gallon, all boards can be 2 x 4’s. Once built, you can skin it in...
I would think that if you wanted SPS on a 75, you’d be better off with a six bulb T5 unit.
However, I’d go LED. I switched from T5's to LEDs. If you’re budget conscious, check out Reefbeeders. They sell very nice LEDs at reasonable costs.
Also relies that if you go T5 route, you’re...
I have two JBJ 28 hoods for sale….an HQI hood and a Quad CF hood
HQI hood
The HQI is a 150 W HQI with what I believe are two actinic CF bulbs. All bulbs work, but uncertain of the age:
The top of the hood has a slight deformity which I believe is from it overheating….it can be seen...
The heat is here! I’m selling a Nano Arctica Titanium Chiller, 1/20 horsepower (model DBI-038). This was originally on the JBJ28 when the HQI light was being used. It was purchased for $290. Comes with the chiller, about five feet of ½ tubing on each of the outlets, and the owner’s manual...
I too went through the cost comparison conundrum when I considered LEDs for a JBJ 28. I decided to build my own canopy that would fit a “Chinese” fixture. I went with a Reefbreeders 120 W fixture and am very happy. HERE’s the DIY for building the canopy.
I would suggest a Glass-Holes overflow kit....that includes the drill bit. You'll be happy. With a 75 you could go with a 700 gph or 1500 gph kit....either one would work. I have the 1500 on my 90 gallon tank.
