Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Let me try to help with the puck vs row styles debate. Whichever type you have you could even have a different effect based on which (if any) optics are being used, but lets say for arguments sake that both are using a standard 60 degree optic.
Now, you're going to have to picture these as 3D...
Very cheap for a dimmable LED. These things (dimmables and non-dimmables) have become pretty popular due to the cost and people are saying they get positive results with corals. But, you get what you pay for:
- Doesn't look like these have any optics on them. (These help a lot with focusing the...
Nice job Paul. Not only does it work better, but it also takes up less space in your sump. :encouragement:
Any worries about having to clean that thing once in a while though? I can picture snails/bristleworms/excess food/algae/etc. building up in there. How easy is it to remove from your...
That looked to be a lot better than the first vid, but I think your flow is way too fast. Did you try slowing it down to where the pellets barely tumble?
There's definitely something causing the flow to be stronger on that one side. Just for kicks, can you unscrew the canister and rotate...
Yep, you can easily take the case apart, unplug the wire from the board, route it through wherever you want, then simply plug it back in and snap the case closed.
Here's a vid instruction on the upgrade to Ecosmart controller which shows how simple it is...
Tin foil would work fine. I have mine in a TLF reactor that hangs on the side of my sump. What I did to protect it from light is just got a 1' long piece of This background stuff and taped it to the outside of my sump, behind the reactor to block the light from shining through.
You could...
Sounds good, keep us posted. And, like I said, level it by hand first to see if that's really the issue. Hate to see you spend an hour getting it level and then still have the same problem. :o
I think it's more likely that Joe didn't have any samples to send him. He can't keep them in stock very long. :o
He didn't have any to spare to send to Reef Angel so Roberto could test his controller on them either. Although, sending one to Sanjay and having him confirm the difference would...
That's probably the issue then. Either tighten the screws or if needed, wedge something behind it to keep it level.
I'd have both the mj1200 and the reactor's outlet tube both in the same (skimmer) section if at all possible. If not, you'll be lowering the level of another section and pumping...
I'd suggest making sure that the holes are all open/clear as Jim suggested. Also, it could just be a matter of the reactor not being level (vertically). If it's hanging on an angle, the upward water pressure will take the path with least resistance, as opposed to spreading out evenly. Try taking...
Haha, well, I wasn't trying to rub it in. But, since this was a tip on researching LED's before buying, I thought it might be something these shoppers would want to also see to compare.
To be fair, it's worth noting that the Apollos don't come with a controller and you need to buy that...
Yea, a uniseal would be better than a bulkhead for this I agree. I really like the idea of going through the bottom plate though. That thing is flat and pretty rigid, so no worries about anything cracking. However, as long as you got it working Paul, I wouldn't mess with it.
As for the...
Yea, I would just put a black lid on it, or paint the top piece of glass black. That way, you can view the overflow box from the back to make sure nothing escaped your tank and is hiding in there (fish, snails, etc.)
Where does that emergency drain go? To the sump? Or, to a sink drain or...
Jim (downbeach) posted that link here about a week ago:
http://www.njreefers.org/showthread.php?76320-Sanjay-s-Testing-LED-s
The unfortunate part of the test was that they didn't test the Apollo LED's in that bunch... which blew AI Sol's away in terms of par...
Sorry for the minor hijack of your thread Richie... but lefkonj, did you build that canopy yourself? If so, do you have any pics of the build?
I'm looking to build something similar and would just like to know the basic structure of it (frame, how the front panel is attached, etc.) That's...
