Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
For starters, in the future, buy leaner hamburger meat.
Now add a little ketchup, mustard and a thin slice of red onion, and you should be just fine……cheese is optional.
Actually, I don’t see a problem…..you’ll be just fine…..maybe add a canopy to your tank if this food-fighting becomes...
A DI unit cleans up that last little bit of dissolved solids that gets by the RO membrane. HERE is an example of a DI add-on unit. What I would do is to put in a tee so that the house purified water is still fed into the storage tank. The other branch of the tee would go through your DI...
You’ve got a pretty high bioload for a 75….2 tangs Tang police, which are crap machines.
Are you running a skimmer?
What is the frequency and volume of water changes you do?
It would be nice to add a DI unit to clean up your water that much more.
Oh, and to answer your questions, no to...
+1 on what Jim said. You’re looking at a good month….you can’t rush this….need to wait until you have zero ammonia and nitrite. Now I’ve never used this to cycle rock, but you might be able to speed the process up by adding a nitrifying additive, like Bio Spira. Again, no direct experience...
You need to cure/cycle that rock by itself in it’s own tank/tub/bucket with a heater and powerhead. You can slightly speed up the process by running your heater slightly higher….say 82F or so.
Cool, welcome, and I like your thinking…..slow is the way to go with this hobby. Start a “Tale of the Tank” for your nano and definitely a Tale for the 90 when you get that started. I too have a 90 with a 40 breeder sump.
Well I’ve heard different things. One was that all 55’s are tempered all the way around. I’ve also heard that only Marineland 55’s are tempered all around while AGA/Aqueon only have tempered bottoms. You might want to double check by using THIS simple method. I actually use polarized...
First off, I believe all 55 g tanks are tempered glass all the way around and therefore can not be drilled.
As far as sizes of areas, your skimmer section will be decided by the footprint of you skimmer.
Number of baffles will be a minimum of three…one to separate refugium to skimmer...
Changing pumps will not change your evaporation rate. The numbers you quote are normal. I loose about two gallons a day on a 90 gallon tank with a 40 breeder sump. I would suggest you look into setting up an Automatic Top Off (ATO) unit to automatically fill your tank. Now you set it and...
Jim said it……When a fish has the word “damn” in its name, you know it’s not good.
I only had one beautiful neon velvet damsel that terrorized my tank. I can’t imagine three…..it’s not going to be pretty.
My guy ended up in the witness protection program and is enjoying himself in an...
An equally good external pump is Pan World. I believe the company was started by an Iwaki engineer, so the pumps are very similar.
MAG’s are good internal pumps as well. With 120 gallon DT, you should not have any problem with heat dissipation. You’re heaters might not run much, but you...
Sorry for the flippant response….my mind immediately went to medical grade lasers, which are very costly.
That link looks pretty cool….so for $300 or less you can zap pests to your hearts content.
If you give me about 30-40 thousand dollars I might be able to find a used laser and then test it out!
With enough energy, the laser would vaporize the miscreants in your tank. Would most definitely work, albeit considerably cheaper to tear down your entire tank and start new!
Maybe we...
Having preformed a complex statistic analysis by scratching my head and cleaning the ear wax in my left ear with my pinky finger, I’ve determined that there is no difference in chemical results between the Salifert kit versus the Red Sea Pro kit. However, there is statistical difference in the...
HERE’s an example of a cone skimmer that uses a fraction of the electricity of a MAG. There are others from similar manufactures. You can typically pick these up used for 2-3 hundred clams.
Here’s a Tiger’s Tail climbing the glass:
Never really impressed with this guys cleaning ability, so I gave him away. Now I have a Red and Black cuc and he motors around the sand, leaving clean sand poop all over the place. With both cucs, I never saw them eating cyano.
FYI, on...
