Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Sorry to hear about the condition of the tank when you got it back. At this point, sound like you might have to completely redo the tank. I would pull all the live rock and scrub it down to get rid of the algae, and scrub the walls. For a cleanup crew go to reefcleaners.org a lot of people have...
We had a mini meeting today at Trop where they happened to have a 325% sale off of all livestock including corals. We were there with Reefernets, Whitebird1, jonathon, and of course harlequinreef who was working. Had a great time and talked up MACNA and the club to someone not in the club who...
Rics are probably one of the hardiest corals out there, I would start with them. Some people have wild success with zoas, others have them melt out consistently. I like and keep both, but zoos can be more finicky and rics are cheaper.
If the tank is a FOWLR, what sort of fish are in there and would any of them eat your cleanup crew? Are they not reef safe because they eat corals, or are they not reef safe because they eat inverts? I would hate to see you buy a cleanup crew, and basically be buying food.
We have a watchmen goby/pistol shrimp pair. Just make sure the pistol shrimp you get will pair with a goby, several of them will not. Most stores sell them together, which is how we got ours. We just added our flame angel in the 30g and he is doing great, really really like that fish. Once that...
We usually buy our fish from trop, which keeps the date of when the fish arrive. We will pay for the fish and leave it there for a week or so and see how it is looking then. If they fish has been there for a month or so, then I know we do not need to quarantine. We also have cleaner shrimp in...
I had two picassos that were hosting it but one got sucked into a powerhead. The remaining one does hot the anem. I was away for the past four days and now he has settled into the middle of the liverock.
This just goes to show you this hobby is an addiction. Great job on the stand, and will be looking foward to following this thread as we will be upgrading in the next year.
Our BTA had found a nice home in a cave in a piece of live rock, but then we reshuffled the live rock. Apparently he did not like where he was so he took a walkabout. I came home from work and saw him trying to decide if the glass or the live rock was better to mount too.
Don't overpay for the HDMI cable, they have really nice ones for like 10 bucks on amazon.com. Best buy only likes to carry monster cables which run like 60 bucks. The 10$ cables are just as good, I have had them on my blue ray player for almost a year.
I am pretty happy with the Remora C HOB skimmer. We have two of them, one on the 30g and one on the 20g. I have never tried the Octo but am perfectly happy with the Remora
I agree with Nick, we have them on the mounting legs that came with the lights which only sit maybe 3-4 inches over the tank. Our lights have a splash guard but that is something to think about. The T5s don't put out heat like the MH so you don't need to have them as high.
I agree 100% with you Sandee, well worth the trip. We went on the way home from a yankees game, and just hopped on the Lincoln tunnel on the way out. The coral there are amazing.
