No alk doesn’t evaporate it stays in the water. The reason you have to add alk is because your corals use it. The same thing with salt. Salt stays in the water it doesn’t evaporate so we just add more RODi water. to keep salinity the same. RODi should have zero alk

When your salt water evaporates you alk/calcium stay in the tank only water H2O Evaporates so you replace water with water. what’s consuming alk in your tank is your corals or coralline algae. So you have to replace what your corals are using with salt water changes or dosing 2 part or kalk wasser

Yeah it’s not a good idea. Your drain can easily get clogged with a snail or a sheet of nori. It’s very loud and you really can’t control the flow. I tried it and I switch to a overflow right away.

I am building a new tank now and I have decided just to add my fish from my last tank. No corals just fish rocks and sand. I am also not running any lights at the moment. I plan to do this for about 60 days to let the bacteria settle and let the tank stabilize.

You should never put cooper in the display. You should treat in a separate tank.

That cross flow gyre pump moves a lot of water.

You can have two sumps you just need to run both on one pump. Like everyone else said if you introduce that 2nd pump you will always have a problem getting them to sync
