What a project that turned in to. After a 1/2 can of WD 40, a hammer, some cursing...I got the pump working again. I don't think that pump has worked in a loooong time, both of the copper check valves were frozen and the exit pipe was clogged. Another 1/2 can of WD-40 and I freed up the check...

Mike to the rescue! Talked me through getting the sump pump out. Thanks Mike!

Well, I spoke too soon. Water starting to come in the basement, and of course the sump pump isn't working now... and the way the previous owners hooked up the sump I have no idea how I can switch it out.

I clean mine about once every week. If I'm lazy I'll go 2 weeks. It definitely skims better when it is clean. Phyl brought up a good point. It makes sense, I wonder if that could cause algae problems.
