Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
SPS do have feeder tentacles which is what you are witnessing. They can be quite powerful in their sting so just give it some room and it will be fine.
Everyone has a love hate relationship with hermits. They can be a great CUC but all you need is one to turn on you and boom you are in trouble. Problem is with so many species you never really know what you are going to get. I have always stuck with blue legged and scarlet reefs, but even...
If you are going to take a step back, you can get some credit for the fish or sell them on here. If you are going to break down you are not going to need new rock, you now will have the time to nuke the rock properly and set it all back up again. The same goes with the sand, you can rinse it...
As Paul mentioned either it is coming from your well water or from your salt. Have you tested just the RO coming right out of the RODI? Besides this time, do you always use an RODI or just straight from the well?
How long have you had this particular bucket of salt?
The fish can survive for a long time in a 5g bucket if you throw a heater and a HOB filter on there and perform water changes and what not. You can keep your LR you are just going to have to essentially make it dead rock and restart your cycle. I would give it some though as aipstaia can be...
Ok so at this point the good news is you have a small tank and you don't have a ton of corals. If this were my tank this is what I would do:
Get rid of the liverock, that much algae and aiptasia is going to be a constant battle. If you just dip it in RO you are going to kill the beneficial...
We have been bouncing apartments for a few years so unfortunately we had to move our tanks a lot more than I ever wanted too. I have never done a tank that big but the theory is the same. With some careful planning and taking it slow it can be pretty easy especially if you do not have a ton of...
What a lot of people will do is use one return pump that is rated higher than their tank and build a manifold off of that and use just the one pump to fill all the devices. This cuts down on the wires and buying a bunch of pumps and making sure you have the right pump for each piece. With a...
The reason alot of people stopped putting UV on their reef tanks is that UV does not discriminate good vs bad bacteria and just kills it all. On a QT or hospital tank it does not matter because you are not looking to establish long term good bacteria in there, just treat the fish and get all...
Your coral load and the type of corals is going to affect your Alk levels. Also some will get lost to filtration and other things. You need to test every day for at least a week probably two if you want to start dosing to make sure your levels are consistent.
How long has it been doing this? Ours did this after water changes and sometimes when it had to poop. If it goes on for a long time that is when i would get concerned. Also, water tests just to make sure everything is on the up and up.
These fish are coming from a tank that was broken down by Nicole's aunt. They are thin as they were not really taken care of hence the fact they are back in our hands. We do not have the room for them nor do we want to keep another tank running. We are leaving for Vegas on Saturday and we...
Spongedes is a low light coral, so two things are going to factor into it. Where is the coral in your tank? Intensity of the LEDS. Over your 27g they are a lot of power, I would start a little lower maybe around 35% and work your way up.
