Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Just a little clown biology. Clowns are born sexless with the biggest one in the group becoming female and the rest become males. If the female dies or moves away then the next biggest male becomes the new female. Once a clown becomes a female it will not switch back to a male. The males can...
Let is do its thing. The anem is going to wander until it feels comfortable, we have found ours in all sorts of weird spots. We just moved it into a new tank on sunday and it stayed in the same spot until yesterday and moved over a bit. Just be happy there is not a ton of corals in the tank, it...
The higher the temp the more their metabolism kicks up. At that temp you will probably need to feed several times a day. The ideal temp for them is down around 68-72.
Glad to hear you are turning the corner, we have to keep the 45g club going strong. We finally got a drilled 45g, and it is great not to have everything HOB any more.
To seed live sand, get live sand or rock from a trusted close reefer and add it to your tank. You can buy the live sand and that will work out fine as well, just cheaper if you have something closer. You can also do a search for garf's grunge, also good stuff to help establish a tank with.
Thank you for the welcome and you might be able to walk to our meeting.
We will have pics up in a few days. I went with Comcast because Fios is not available in the area yet (I will be switching as soon as they do get it) and they said I could pick up the wireless router from the store in...
Looks really nice Paul, is that Marco rock and epoxy? When are you going to make your own?
Looking forward to following your build, you know we love cubes.
Already planning the custom peninsula that will separate the kitchen and the great room, if that does not work out there is plenty of room to get a tank into the basement. This is why I am hosting the meeting, need labor.
I kept thinking to go grab my camera but the weekend was so hectic I just forgot. Also there was a snafu with the lighting so that won't be here until tomorrow.
The live rock was pulled from our previous builds and we put in a brand new sand bed. We also adde seachem stability and another...
It took all weekend and we are still not done but we moved into our house. The fish made the move today, some are stressed out but everything look ok right now (keeping the fingers crossed). We will be hosting the meeting this month, so look for the RSVP page soon, hopefully everyone can make it...
Sorry to hear you lost your coral. We have found frome keeping only nanos for the past few years it small and consistent are the best ways to go. If you miss a water change in the future do 2 smaller water changes over the course of the week instead od one big one.
Think about it this way:
45g of water at 8.5 pounds per gallon: 382.5 pounds
Tank itself with stand: Maybe 60 pounds (Totally making this number up, all I know is I can carry the tank by myself so it can't be that heavy)
Sand and rock 75 pounds roughly
Total: 517 pounds, lets round up and say...
To raise it there are buffers (I use Alk 8.3 by brightwell). To bring alk down you can do a normal water change or bring the calcium up. What salt are you using?
Almost forgot to mention, the cardinals had to be rehomed, they were getting too big. That left the tank with three gobies that hang out mostly in the rocks so if you caught the tank right, you would not see any fish at all. Nikki decided to rectify this situation with this guy:
