Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
With new lights you only want to have them on for maybe 4 hours a day and ween the corals onto them. Also, depending on the bulbs, turn on the blues first then full color, helps.
I would recommend Camden, my fiancee went to law school there and we walked over a few times. They have excellent reef tanks and the rest of the aquarium is very fun. Just don't go for the local Camden tour ;)
Sounds like you got a bad piece. I have to recommend tropiquriaum, I got a piece with two heads and it has been doing wonderfully. I spot feed occasionally with mysis and brine and it does great. My secret was getting the bastard emerald crab out that was nipping at it.
Thank you all for the tips, I think I need to just get in there with my hands and yank off as much as I can. When I added the phosphate sponge it started to brown over so I might be winning this battle.
I haven't checked phophates recently because I was told once you have hair algae it will mask your phosphate levels so the tests aren't acurate.
Also, do you just pull the algae off or is there a better way to trim it?
As we have started to get more expensive fish recently we have been drip acclimating all of them over the course of 45 mins or so. All the fish are doing well and we have not had one problem.
Corals we just float and pour some water in and they have been doing fine.
We have a flame with zoas and mushrooms and he leaves them alone. We also make sure to keep him well fed with mysis and seaweed. You always have to be carefull, I sometimes catch my clowns nipping at my zoas and palys.
My JBJ nano has been running for 4 months now and has had a hair algae outbreak. I have taken some steps already such as putting a phosphate sponge in the back, as well as changing the filters, adding an emerald crab, leaving the lights off longer, trying to feed less and blowing food off of the...
Thank you guys for the advice. I also pulled out an emerald crab after we saw him pull a piece off of our frogspawn. He may be to blame for annoying the duncan as well. If anyone wants him you can have him, little guy molted twice and got way to big for the tank.
We started using Kents Coral growth formula in our tanks and really noticed a pickup in the coraline growth. Mostly red, pink, and maroon. Regardless of the color the more coraline you get, the less annoying algae you will get because they will not grow on top of one another. Also, when you buy...
Thank you guys for responding, we are going to continue with the vitamin C because our zoa look great. We will look into the other additive. We just started using Brightwell and have been very happy with the results. I used their phosphate sponge and it worked very well.
I bought a duncan about two weeks ago and the thing is not opening up all the way. I have it in the bottom of my tank with moderate light/waterflow. I spot feed it when it is open and my water conditions are fine. The only thing that I have read which may be bothering it is the frogspawn in the...
We have been dosing all of our food with Vitamin C on a recommendation. Seems to be working good and all of our fish and corals are looking good but I was just wondering if we are the only ones.
